Ooh Apple are so innovative, what will they think of next an infra red port? I really am starting to get sick of these boring black slab designs from all current phone OEM's.

I guess they discovered it during the development of the new Macbook (the antenna integrated into the metal hinge enclosure without need for plastic like in the Macbook Air)

It is like the faux-leather look on plastic that samsung came up with

As I read the application in the source, it is a matter of a thin coating on top of a composite. So in principle it is a bit like paint. I guess the antenna signal might get through a very thin metal oxide layer, with almost no dampening.

But it really doesn't matter *how* it is done if it works and looks better. :-)

AnonD-408908, 22 Jun 2015Hope it no a rumorIndeed, as much as I like Apple's design language in general, I get the distinct impression Johnny Ive has issues with how to place aerials. The 1Phone 6 isn't even the worst example, the big plastic block on the iPad 3/4G models distorts an otherwise nice looking device.
