Having purchased the origional Redmi 2, I can say that the 'enhanced' edition was a definativley good moove for Xiaomi. The phone works wonders and even though Ive had bigger/faster phones, this is one of the best phones Ive ever owned. However, the downfall is the lack of internal storage, 8Gb is used up quickly (although that is fixed with expandable MicroSD storage) and the 1Gb of ram is used up quickly if 3 or more apps are open at once. Ive never been able to clean and have more than 440Mb ram available, so in saying this a 2GB variant should not be an "alternative" but a full replacment.
