They should go for 999k screen first....
Why not develop 16K directly? Although this could be a good move for Samsung - to skip a display (8K) of what could be a generation-long to get standardized just to get ahead in the display department. And all else would follow
They would skip 8K

I hope everyone commeting on that we need new batteries, actually understand, that the same research team, don't have the qualifications to develop better batteries.
We cant stop all other development, until we have better batteries.
What if, tomorrow some team unveils truly wireless electricity.
Then we wont have displays, to fully make use of that invention....
Siune, 13 Jul 2015I'd actually ask 500 GHz, and a battery of 1500 MAh (1500 MEGA Amper. or 1500,000,000 mAh) and... moremaybe in another 20 years this will be the norm.. judging by the speed that technology is advancing
There is not cartel on that useless resolution that you cant find any rrlative content at all so they will sell them at even biger prices. At least normal tvs will be sold at normal prices after years of their unethical cartel.
That is really an overkill.. What kind of horsepower needed to run those machines?
I hope the 11K "trademark" is only used as a theoretical measure, like this would be the resolution if the technology is implemented on a screen used outside VR. Otherwise, as the rest of the commenters, I find this ridiculous.
I don't know what size a pixel needs to be so it is imperceptible even if its looked at very very close. I think the goal is definitely on ppi, but 11k sounds like too many pixel to be used on a mobile device given the current uses we give them.
I find very hard (not impossible, thoug) to spot a pixel on a 44 ppi TV at 4 meter away. The same with a 440 ppi cellphone at a distance over 40 cm.
So, unless 2250 ppi its going to be used CONTACT LENSES DISPLAYS that does make sense.

AnonD-415371, 13 Jul 2015Totally agree with you, its such a waste of money, why 11k when even 1080p is adequateIf the world was full of people like you we would be still living in tents

While I'm a little scared to bring VR into my life as I might stay in there for life, this would be a MASSIVE improvement over today's VR screens. Most would agree if you have tried them.
LEARN: What's the point of this, right? Well, the 2250ppi density will allow the screen to produce VR experiences without pixelization. But ever the display or smartphone * includes a battery of 20000 mAh :v.
lol
With that slow battery improvements and thickness crazy, i doubt if a phone with such display will even turn on.
AnonD-93439, 13 Jul 2015That money could have been used to cure aids or Alzheimer! But no, lets waste it on a 3000ppi ... moreI do agree
Why not use that money for R&D on how to convert heat released by human body to electricity which can be used to power the battery of a smart phone.
Why are you all talking like it's a smartphone display. The title says mobile and they even say in the article it'll be used for virtual reality. Sounds like Samsung will try to compete with HTC's vine
