Actually The Lumia 925 was a Windows Phone 8 device from the start. And interestingly some Windows Mobile 6 handsets, for example the more popular ones from HTC had an option to upgrade to WP7. But WP7 was by many regarded as worse than WM6.
Nice article, thanks.

Don't forget the groundbreaking at the time LG Prada (2006) that ran on Flash. Lovely UX in monochrome with some colour highlights. Obviously instantly killed off the second the iPhone was launched, but it introduced the concept of the aesthetically pleasing easy to use touch screen interface. Symbian had been powerful but janky, unlike the Prada and iPhone.

Bada never used linux, it had it's own custom kernel. It was designed so that it could run on it's own kernel or on linux, but all of the devices ever released used the bada kernel.
