You need to grow ... moreIt's more about the miui version, you wouldn't have a real benefit with Android 5.1.1, the next big update will be miui 7 and again, it will be about the features and not the Android version.
My girl has the mi4 with stock miui 6, I have the galaxy s6 and had the xperia z3 before and when it comes to software, the KitKat miui6 doesn't need to hide behind the Android 5 that sony and Samsung delivers... I would even say my Sony, as well as my Samsung has more software problems than the mi4 ;)
