Hangouts update is awesome.
No issues with animated gifs as mentioned in a comment below. Much better, cleaner than before and new image picker works great.
I've not tried video calls yet. Voice only calls work perfectly :)

GIF animations sent using the new Hangouts do not actually animate within the conversation, or when tapped on. They remain motionless still images. I would suggest to people not to update to the new version.
