HLS protocol is Apple's, it's supported on their browser (Safari) and their Player (QuickTime), under their OSs (OSX and iOS).

Google supported HLS poorly on Android, Microsoft never did on InternerExplorer, but with windows 10 and Edge browser they seem to be eager to implement all they can to appeal the platform, Windows 10 is supporting HEVC decoding and MKV wrapper out of the box, along with multiple subtitling formats.

So Apple didn't change their strategy, nor they are planning anything, it's only that Microsoft is trying to please everyone (though it's an imposible job, but Windows 10 is damn good).

AnonD-294856, 28 Aug 2015I guess until now only their browsers could support their streaming protocol but now edge can too. What a stupid comment. You could watch Apple streams even before this with a chrome extension that changes the chrome metadata to belive it was safari. So nothing about the browser capabilities.

This may be a hint that apple may be up for something that it want to show windows people.
