AnonD-364786, 03 Sep 2015exynos has more cores so better performance in some benchmarks which utilises all the cores. ... moreShut up with your harmonica, what do you know about the engineering of Mongoose custom cores?
twice as hot?
Cause that was a pretty nifty arrangement made by Moto itself. It actually gave what recent chipsets claim to have now and iPhone still doesn't have it: always on voice detection with minimal battery drain.
AnonD-364786, 03 Sep 2015Novice comment. Samsung just manufactures for Qualcomm just like they will do it for apple... moreNo, they can't. They won't get 14nm fin fet from anyone else. They could get a mediocre 16nm fin fet that surely wouldn't get them to boast twice performance and battery life improvement.

exynos support is just bad for development. new exynos only won benchmark because it on smaller process compared to 810. and 8 cores are stupid really .
and then come to GPU, as you can see exynos gpu is jsut weaker than quallcom.
so is 820 good ? we will see
why it sound like Motorola X8 computing technology back 1n 2013 (inside moto X first gen)?
looks like Motorola always a step ahead

in real life exynos is slower and in efficient .. now mediatek has got a SoC with 10 cores which beat everything including Exynos.
samsung is not good in customising ARM cores which is their weakness.
and FYKI they are trying to customise it for quite some time
Simon, 03 Sep 2015Samsung actually has leading processor-engineering expertise. Top engineers work either at Int... moresamsung is good in manufacturing the chips but not that good in designing the chips.
all the exynos SoCs are ARM cores with little to 0 customisation unlike SD ..
samsung is not customising it because it is their weakness and nothing related to what you think ( that they are smart enough not to customise )..
and for your kind info , samsung is trying to customise it for a very long time..
google this "Samsung to follow Qualcomm and start using custom ARM cores in its Exynos processors" ;-)

Top engineers work either at Intel, Samsung, or Apple, surprisingly. Samsung was first to develop an ARM 14nm chip process with fin fets, which is a huge feat. They're strategy is business model are different though - they're a fab. They don't consider it smart to make a custom core, if ARM makes decent ones. Samsung can put them on their process, tweak a little putting on their own chipset and still have the best processor on the market.
AnonD-152638, 03 Sep 2015How did they meassure that?
Twice as powerfull when the SD810 is underclocked to not overheat... moreSD 810 is a half baked one without proper customisation of the cortex cores.
qualcomm were caught off guard by apple with 64 bit processing and QC's attempt to fasten the things screwed it..
probably SD 820 will fix all of the QCs problem
While twice the improvements over the 810 are not something to brag about, because you're comparing a top hyped sillicon to potato, still I'm really looking forward. A great-looking architecture coupled with best on the market Samsung 14nm Fin-fet process.
Anonymous, 03 Sep 2015Just glad that Samsung takeover to make the processor for them. Leave it to the professional. ... morelol..
exynos uses stock cortex cores .. samsung don't have expertise to customise it unlike qualcomm and apple.
considering customising the cores involves bit of software knowledge , samsung can't master it ;-)
The real question is: will it be twice the heater as its predecessor is?
How did they meassure that?
Twice as powerfull when the SD810 is underclocked to not overheat?
And twice as energy efficient, when the SD810 is running at full clock?
I do hope it's a good chip.
But that heterogenous hasn't really caught on, as far as I know. And if neither OS nor apps support it, it's just another buzzword.
I do like the concept. That cores can be used for what you need them for. But I think it has more of a potential impact on desktops, where you then could by a new graphics card to get more processing power. It's not that good of a concept for gamers, that usually want the most of the CPU and the GPU at the same time. But I'm no gamer....
Who is going to release first sd820 phone ? Any guess ??

Hope we will not see those problems. But I liked that omlet making comment.. hilarious..
it is sad that sony z5 didnt come with this s820. they will need extra nitrogen cooling liquid.
820 will come with 2 times more power and energy efficiency and users can make an omlette on the phone's back.
Just glad that Samsung takeover to make the processor for them. Leave it to the professional. Hope to see no more overheating.
