What does Symbian^2, Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 mean? And how does this effect my Nokia N97 mini?
i wanted symbian back in 2003 or 2004. but when i bought 5800 xpress Music in 2009 in spring it disapointed me totaly. the os was like its made for kindergarden kids. if i want costumization i dont just mean themes. i wanna have totaly different menues, shells... so i went for a WM6.1 and Im stil a happy user of my X1. Symbian for me? never again.
It seems that the back button is placed on the top right, kind of one step back. It should be on the bottom
Kierann, 17 Jan 2010What people forget is that Symbian S60 has one thing no other Mobile OS has to the same degree... moreSymbian is as confusing as anything.
Every time you get a new Nokia things are moved to different places.
Besides the advice on Nokia's site is to remove the battery when it freezes, it's such a common occurrence they don't want to overload their repair centres with software reinstalls.
i hope nokia will announce something really nice instead of good for nothing symbian.what will sybiam do in face of windows and andriod
I'm very glad to see the Symbian OS on Nokia grow up. Having been a Nokia Symbian user for about 8 years now, I have been a happy customer with Nokia's offerings.
Symbian OS4 will be very interesting and exciting once it lands.
Go Nokia!
What people forget is that Symbian S60 has one thing no other Mobile OS has to the same degree: Ease of use at the right price. Android is phenomenally powerful, and I can easily see it becoming the premier OS in the world very soon, but it's not exactly easy to use. It can definitely be confusing for a large number of users. Symbian is a lot less confusing, and quite simple.
Winmo is another potential contestant. It's business capabilities are phenomenal, but it doesnt have the same touch optimization of Symbian S60.
iPhones are always going to be popular. Fantastic technology, with a flawless music suite. But it's incredibly expensive, and doesnt have the same customization abilities of Symbian.
Let's not forget that Symbian is the cheapest smartphone platform, as you can pick up a Nokia 5530 XM for £100.
Symbian isn't dead yet.
thetruth, 17 Jan 2010wow lots of people talking nonsense.... please do not speak unless you know wtf you are talkin... moreHow is the maemo OS?
I am thinking of buying the n900 or the SE satio. I am currently alternating my n95 and 5800 for usage.
You are right. Symbian/Nokia haters need to do homework or research about the versatility of the Symbian OS. Well said!!!
I have also used the iphone, but switched to the n95 because of the functionality.
apt.pupil, 17 Jan 2010"Symbian has more freedom than any other OS."
orly?
Can you play flash video con... moreAgain, Symbian has more freedom than any other OS. I am referring to the s60.
My n95 still rocks, and so as my 5800.
thetruth, 17 Jan 2010wow lots of people talking nonsense.... please do not speak unless you know wtf you are talkin... moreIf Symbian is so good, why are you using an N900 and not a Symbian phone?
I think Nokia should shift over to Android. Symbian will be thing of the past, Almost all the mobile manufacturers are shifting to Android and Android is part of Next gen..

Can you play flash video content on Symbian?
Does it support regular .zip and .cab compressed files natively?
Does Symbian synchronise files, contacts, and emails with windows computers without the need of manually launching and running third- party software every time you want to do something?"
Are you that clueless about the s60? the symbian s60 can DO the things that you asked above!!!
"symbian is a good BASIC OS, but when it comes to the more advanced features you can see smartphones using, Symbian is simply not that good. I a happy to use symbian s40 in a phone that doesn't try to be more than a mobile phone. s60 is ok for a feature phone, but lacks the stability required to run a touchscreen smartphone."
nokia touchscreen smartphones run on s60 and it is stable.
Your comment makes no sense!!! You are completely blind. the s40 IS the basic OS. You do think "basic" since you are only using the s40.
die nokia, die!!
wow lots of people talking nonsense.... please do not speak unless you know wtf you are talking about... those of you who say android will be king.. have probably never used and android phone. they are ok. the iphone still to this day cant do half the things my n95 did.. and know that i have an n900 there is no need for me to use my home computer... symbian is the absolute most versatile Os on the market. period.. do your homework before you post a comment.
Symbian is quite goog only problem is that slow UI, low transition effect without 3d..
Only few things to be fixed and s60 will become the best UI and OS.
I think s40 would be better than Android, only nokia have to add 3d effect, good processer, multitasking and java heap + maximum jar size should be unlimited...

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2010Nokia's totally gonna die really soon!! They'll probably only sell low-ends. It's really soon ... moreNokia has 38% market share mate, unless they do something horibly wrong they will be around for a while to come. They are already making a switch to maemo over the next 3 years for their business end phones while their mid range will remain symbian because theres less development costs in it for them. maemo is developed from linux same as android.
No i dont use nokia
what about BADA OS?
ahahaha
too late

Yes it supports zip natively and anyone with a slight intelligence can download mobile rar for symbian theres 3 free apps
--Does Symbian synchronise files, contacts, and emails with windows computers without the need of manually launching and running third- party software every time you want to do something?
--Its so hard to install Nokia suite thats freely downloadable on the net and yes it syncs everything perfectly
And theres FREE OVI online sync you don't need a computer just the internet to sync your symbian
Dude i'm not even gonna bother answering to the rest of your comment...but when throws such vauge useless comments like Voda AU provides customer support for N97.. you've never heard of customer support before.
I dont even need to insult you, you've said it yourself you can't handle a "BASIC OS"
nice
