WhatsApp is completely free in india.
@ itthehappy WhatsApp decided to make it free it india last year seeing its already huge userbase there and not the other way round.

luqman98, 04 Sep 2015Never experienced that (in my case it happens via SMSs). Be careful when sharing your mobil... morelol lots of play store apps upload your entire contact list to advertiser. So you can do nothing to avoid it. Never install an app if it requires access to your contact list if is is not needed for app functioning.

That shall give a clear picture of folks using the app across platform considering it is the most popular app.
In India I know lot of folks who upgraded to a smartphone simply to use whatsapp.

I use Whatsapp as it's a useful tool to me. However recently starting to be plagued by random users adding me, sending spam marketing messages.
My mobile number isn't public anywhere so it's clearly someone/company adding random numbers
