Looking at those prices I'm glad I bought the G4, whilst it doesn't have the stunning specifications that the Z5 Premium (the only one I would be interested in), it does have an excellent compromise on features & specifications and a more affordable price tag.

ESPECIALLY Sony, that has been loosing customers since quite a while.
in the current economy, increasingly more and more people will wake up, and will refuse to pay these crazy prices for the phones that last 1 year and easy to break...
the products cost as much as the customers are willing to pay.
not as much the shops/manufacturers ask for them.

Phones are great, but prices can win a lot customers, Considering S6,edge,plus,note,iphone6,G4 got prices lower and are not bad either. Audio recording quality is also wonder for now.(In this lumias&iphone wins)

It's a very smart move from Sony to compete with these two with a much better specs :
- 4K display stunning display
-Xreality engine
- Amazing build quality and design
- FM radio
-SD card slot up to 200GB
- Water and dust proof
- Best camera to day.
What do these 2 have anything to offer more ? Absolutely nothing.
Once again very smart move by Sony. Checkmate.

Others were already selling the same phones for less, which means Sony was selling to retailers cheap enough so that they could make a profit even at lower prices. This, in turn, means Sony was seriously overcharging when selling directly.
