Definitely best of both worlds. FHD and UHD when it is needed the most. Fantastic idea.
gab, 19 Sep 2015too many samsung fanboys here complaining that the z5 premium will only render its homescreen ... moreWell hypocrisy is all over, just for the sake that they have something bad to say. Before, they were complaining that it could've been just 1080p bec. 4K isn't needed, that there is little to no diff bet. fhd & uhd, and/or it could just hurt the batt. But now that it works for both FHD and UHD, there is still an issue? Just pathetic insecure people.
Very nice idea. Just like PC screen resolution configuration.
The legend Sony is back?
Bravo...
Other companies should this: Allow the option to downgrade resolution from Qhd to 1080p when the higher resolution is not needed.Itd
AnonD-112143, 19 Sep 2015who needs 4K anyways .... 1 hour of that would take 42GB to 318 GB gigs or something ... who's... moreYes, we need 4K, if you watching Youtube you will know the different, sharp and clear with finest details.
AnonD-200996, 19 Sep 2015A shame again on Sony. Overheating issues, camera performance issues, water proof issues. And... moreThe competitor always attack Sony by old chestnut, now they got new thing to attack, the winner must be the survivor from the "attack".
gab, 19 Sep 2015too many samsung fanboys here complaining that the z5 premium will only render its homescreen ... moreYeah , you ' re right!
Props to Sony for actually coming with this idea, it shows how much they are dedicated to bring you the best of both worlds - lasting battery and the best display in a phone. All this is water resistant :)
Anonymous, 19 Sep 2015First their phones are not waterproof after all, and now this... wowThey are waterproof to the guides, i've had a sony and a samsung 5 out all day in the sea and they're both fine.
Don't believe everything you read, they say these things to cover their backsides.
A shame again on Sony. Overheating issues, camera performance issues, water proof issues. And now resolution issues...too bad for a greatest Tech Giant of Japan.
Why do the downgrade to 1080P. Why not to 2k to be in the same page as G4 and S6. Doesn't make any sense...Too bad...so many issues with SONY.
If you don't like the phone, just leave those who do alone. If you have nothing constructive to say, keep quiet.
Forcing your ideas down people's throats makes you a bad person.
wer, 19 Sep 2015HAHAHAHHA that's the nice joke out there ! first 4k display but only when you needed that tur... morehaha says the guy still using a 750p screen, or the guys who have a QHD phone but only for half the day, because the batteries run out quickly.
too many samsung fanboys here complaining that the z5 premium will only render its homescreen at 1080. i ask you, do you need a 4k homescreen? do you need icons be rendered in 4k? do you need your music player to show a 4k interface? let's get real. if it was a power-socket plugged PC with a 40 inch monitor i would gripe, but this is a hand held gadget that fits in your pocket and runs on batteries. why need 4k during the times you wont need them? i certainly dont need them while using the interface, but i will appreciate it when it comes to 4k media, and that's where it the screen gets rendered in 4k. now that's just logical.
Downscaling? Holy shit I knew this would happen, totally knew it. "only when needed"? You don't EVER need that high pixel density, except when using it as a VR device. The only purpose of putting such displays into smartphones is to mature the technology so that in the far future we can use it for VR but in smratphones when used as such it has no purpose whatsoever.
Still and nevertheless, this article reminds me of Anonymous's (E03t) comment written on the 1st of September on an earlier Xperia Z5 article. To quote E03t writes: "4K screen tech on Z5 premium is said to be usage adaptable, it will lower to 2K if 4K not needed...good for battery life :)". Then Davood (mUKx) exactly replied on the same day: "I don't think we can see this kind of technology any time soon, being able to choose between a 4k or lower?!!!!!!!how could it be possible? If that's true what you said, to me that's some technology". Well, now that Sony explained some 'kind of technology' exists and is to be witnessed/experienced on their Z5 family. Sony truly showed us that it is possible and that such 'technology' can be witnessed/experienced as 'soon' as now (one shouldn't forget that testers/developers get to test them pre-release of the device). If there is one thing needing confirmation, Sony might have just confirmed Davood's dispute, regarding the matter, has been recently refuted with this article
people complain for everything....for me even 2k is useless 1080p is perfect we dont need anything else atleast for now... we need better battery performance and good performance with socs....insted of higher resolutions..plus more cores are useless to 10 cores ..8 cores for what there are applications that use only 1 core, besides on pc there are intel socs dual core and runs bettern that a few quad cores so it doesnt means that more cores is better...i would say that quad core is the mark as long as they are well optimized...4k for multimedia content is agood idea ,, because u only want to watch movies and pics with that resolution i dont think u want to have a 4k user interface sucking ur battery all time.....
Anonymous, 19 Sep 2015Its a smart feature. No gimmick. Why you want 4k all the time and drain your phone battery? If... morewho needs 4K anyways .... 1 hour of that would take 42GB to 318 GB gigs or something ... who's sane in his mind to upload and watch something on his phone a whole 128 giga would take something like 1 movie or something .... it's too damn useless ! you'd run outta memory in no time .... and as if all people has 4Ks at home...
