Judging from the GSMArena comments, I would say they failed at that.
All thanks to SD810's poor reputation.
But I do like the idea behind changing resolutions when needed (like on desktop machines), hope they will also support 3rd party apps/games.

Not.even Samsungs strongest exynos could run such a display. So there was not one other possible than the sd810 that Sony could have used..

I wanna see that display....
its resonable to use the native 4k good idea.
However the adreno 430 not designed for 4k resolution push out? If can record 4k videos since 2-3 years now, the playback is nothing. 4k gaming maybe pushes to top performance what makes more heat. 5.5" 4k + SD810... I would worry much more about the cooling solution that two heat pipe works accurate or not.

Why you want 4k all the time and drain your phone battery? If they make new flagship with 4k available 24/7 next year people will say "I think Xperia Z5 Premium is better than this new phone".

dont to worried for sony fan..we just wait for asus padfone s 2 come with 4k resolution and use snapdragon 820 chipset..most advance to sony z5 next year in Q1 2016..cheers to Asus!!

Cyber shot under dog, 19 Sep 2015Havent you read the news, the z5 is installed with heating pipes, not one but two. So its poss... moreyup heard about them but still cooling things doesn't mean that the thing itself going to be powerful, i mean 810 sucks even without that heat problem.
also 4k is useless on small scale screens .....
just like high megapixels on low aperture cams... big picture no details ...
anyway Sony phones always sucked build or performance wise .... even on waterproofing Samsung killed their phones on S5 proofing and check this one out on sony too

Funny that in none of those use cases 4k is "needed" as the human eye cannot see the difference.
The only use case where 4k is truly needed is VR, and IIRC Sony does not officially support VR and thus no 4k there. It's like living in the opposite world, where a useful feature is used in a useless way...
