Very smart trick from sony. Same as having a V12 cars with 4 or 6 cylinders activated most of the time and 12 cylinders are available when needed. 👏👍

this is what we need. 4k for movies; 1080p for games. sony has exactly done that.

Its 4k screen... no one needed it, but people still complain when they show one...
An when they make it work better, they again complain....
PS, yes. its possible in every android device to change resolution, eg I have xperia z, adn even if phone have 1080 screen I set it to 720.
All you need is root access and app like NOMone Resolution changer or if you know how you just need edit few files in system folder.
Its can mess few apps, and they need reinstallation and and battery save is not that much, maybe its more 10% per day, but its work smoother and with bigger DPI Its look the same.
And also, just like any app that mess with system... you can get bootloop :] so its for people who know what they doing...

Samsung is the biggest copycat not Apple.
If you not know history Samsung does everything copied from Apple to Sony and even Nokia is a victim from Samsung stealing their Am oled technologie.
So dont acuse Apple for copy please.

so it's not a full 4K all the time .... just when the mobile decides ... hmmm i wonder if it'll be stable also if such a feature will work with 3rd party apps .... and as i see from the comments Sony sheeps are amused .... don't forget the 810 sheeps ... this thing will mostly suck

Sony looks damn convincing everytime. Had a horrible experience with z2. Worst camera ever. Always heating. Frame drop. But excellent build quality and in call voice. I wouldn't put my money on it again.

Despite my initial feeling, I think this is actually a brilliant idea. The dual heat pipe in the z5 premium is also a nice innovation.

This is a true smartphone. - switching to 1080p when not needed is a smart move. I dont know if anybody can copy this technology from Sony, specially Apple which doesn't offers any true innovation. They just selling the same sh!t every year. But i will admit, Apple is the boss of all marketing strategy.
But all my money will go to SONY.
