It's often not point out that they nearly doubled the pre-order period....
2014: announced on 9th and pre orders were from 12th and the release was on the 19th. 2015: announced on 9th and pre orders were from 12th and the release was on the 25th.
Adding the first 3 days of sales
2014: 11m sales in 10 days or 1.1m sales a day
2015: 13m sales in 19 days or 0.68m sales a day
Considering 2015 figures included the largest untapped market in the world (China) and 2014 figures do not, as they did not sell there at the time, I would argue that Apple has experienced a significant drop in initial daily sales even with the Chinese market included.

I honestly cannot say I'm attached to any brand or OS, but I do expect decent progress over past products and competition. As a previous iPhone user (iPhone 4 - it was truly a great phone!) I was less than enamoured with the iPhone 5 offering so I made the switch to Samsung (S4). I actually still have it and use it for personal and business. The size of the phone, particularly screen-to-body ratio, camera, customisation and folder options (emails and multiple attachments are particularly frustrating on iOS) has made this phone the perfect next step up AND I could expand the memory and change batteries. I was eagerly awaiting the iPhone 6 but feel they could have done so much more (massive bezels-MASSIVE!, small average screen, ok camera, poor battery...no file system, 16gb - you cannot be serious), then the S6...no expandable storage or replacement battery (you only had to offer base 64gb with a Sony-like battery life and we might have forgiven these omissions). So where to from here...Windows? Ha-ha, I still can't go there. I'll keep the Samy but eagerly looking forward to phone offerings in 2016 - here's hoping!

Even 15M would mean stagnation, comparing the last year 10M, having China in opening week this year and considering China holds almost a third of iPhone sales.
Selling 13M is technically a record, but a record that shows slowdown of iPhone sales.

Apple has again delivered like they do year after year. It's their optimization and regular updates that attract new users and keep the old ones happy. Only weak point is the miserable battery but then most Androids suffer from the same problem.
It's Androids fragmentation and lack of updates that will eventually chase customers away. Already I've seen many disgruntled users being left out of updates.

Considering the high demand, there is no logical reasoning for Apple to stop sales by inhibiting their production.
Apple simply couldn't ship the iPhones fast enough.
