I'll bet many aren't supported! thats not important. after he receive windows 10 upgrade, he can also run android apps. plus.. his phone will still be supported by microsoft and always receive new os until the next 2 or 3 years.

Now it seems rooting my Moto E 4G to CyanogenMod 12.1 with Android 5.1.1 was a damn good idea.. :-p
