Samsung probably sold the most touchscreen phones of them all, just that only a few were smartphones (Omnia HD, Omnia Pro, Omnia II, Omnia Lite, Galaxy)
How come Samsung only shipped 4 million touchscreen phones while in October gsmarena posted this one "Samsung's Star shines bright: Five million units sold since May." hahaha...Samsung is a big liar then!!!
Anonymous, 10 Feb 2010Not sure how they get these figures, maybe someone here can explain it. Symbian go from 52.4,... moreYour idiocy is showing, Symbian grew from 74926550 to 78511980 that's a 4.8% growth, and the rest are counted in the same way. But apparently you want to claim bias instead of learning simple economics.
Not sure how they get these figures, maybe someone here can explain it.
Symbian go from 52.4, down to 47.2 that is a 5.2% loss.
Rim goes from 16.5 up to 20.8 that is a 4.3% gain.
Apple goes from 9.6 up to 15.1 that is a 5.5% gain.
Microsoft goes from 13.9 down to 8.8 that is a 5.1% loss.
Android goes from 0.5 up to 4.7 that is a 4.2% gain.
It seems these statics are a little biased. However like I said I'm not sure how they get these figures.
Anonymous, 10 Feb 2010Symbian is not inferior compared to android, it's just ugly. Don't forget flash is running on ... moreI agree, Symbian is a very powerful OS, the most powerful out there actually, but it's ugly, that's the problem. Symbian supports way more specs than Android, like better flash, more screen colours etc etc. I don't understand why it has to be ugly. Sony Ericsson are the only ones that make decent try to make Symbian good looking.
I guess people that use Symbian smartphones don't care about looks, they use it to get work done and use it as proper worktool, not just messing around with halfbreed semi working 1 dollar third party apps made by 9 years olds you get for iPhone.
and
motorola has best seller in us
number 1
and beter than iphone samsung and lg and RIM
ANDROID will rule in a few more years!! It won't take long for this platform to dominate the market of smartphones, which is a great news!! More and more people finally realize the power of ANDROID!! Read the article one more time..."The Google OS-powered devices sales rose more than 10 times year over year and seeing how recent announcements go a slowing down is highly unlikely"!! WOW!! Viva ANDROID!!!!
Iphone isent a smartphone...
David, 10 Feb 2010Don't forget Nokia is finetuning Maemo within 2010 as their next big smartphone OS. Nokia are ... moreyes,
I think so.
Yeah, SE is so sad, even though I really liked Ericsson in their hey-days...T39m is like a classic Ferrari!
Let's not overlook the fact that the bulk of Nokia's sales are the inexpensive, "low-end" phones that the average Joe needs and can afford.
Can't wait to see the new symbian phones this feb from nokia
SE not even in the list...
Its high time, they get there OS rite..... Isn't it?
Anyone for SE!!!?

Also this "study" doesn't quite match the low income apple had for q4 and 2009 overall at all.
Considering they sell computers laptops mp3players, software and even server technology, they didn't even come close to nokia. They were 1 or 2 bil. above samsung.
Considering that iphone costs at least twice than nokia's most expensive phone, this article simply looks unprofessional and "paid-for".
Typical apple: buy us we're popular!
Don't forget Nokia is finetuning Maemo within 2010 as their next big smartphone OS. Nokia are also on the verge of buying Palm, and that means Nokia will probably be putting a advanced more developed version Palm Web OS on their next generation touchphones.

i think it's the other way around. symbian is clearly inferior against android. the price of the phones is only it's advantage.
I am extremely HAPPY that Sony Ericsson is not in that list ... BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Learn you lesson SE...! Or you will soon be history...
Shinigami, 10 Feb 2010Apple rules among smart phoes sales. Fine by me, I buy smart phones with T9 dictionary, which ... moreGreat question! The answer to your question is simple. There might have been a confusion here.
Yes, nokia owns 22 million of the 75 million symbian phones sold. however, that 22 million are just the TOUCHSCREEN SYMBIAN phones. Nokia has more NON-TOUCHSCREEN SYMBIAN phones. That explains the 75 million symbian phones sold. Of course, other brands could have contributed to it as well. I hope I answered your question.
i always thought samsung was doing better than nokia in this segment what with their range of smartphone availables. this is a surprise. but nokia should watch samsung. the koreans like their car industry are fast catching up.nokia should come out with better looking and affordable samrtphones.
Good news,,nokia keeps pulling me back all the time..If HTC got better photographic qualities i may be tempted cause htc touch pro had the lot BUT touchscreens,,hmm, still not fully convinced..N97 just arrived this morning and on charge seems very good touchscreen whilst had quick play with it very responsive..Using e72 as main fone..
