The reason why Sony isn't as big as Samsung and Apple in the mobile division is because Sony is not too pushy when it comes to being one of the biggest mobile partners of carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon. If they focus on partnerships with different carriers, they will really stand a chance to make it bigger. Sony handsets are as pricey as Samsung, HTC and LG if not a little more expensive but a little affordable compared to Apple handsets. People often want to have them with monthly plans. Sony should make a great strategy before its too late for them.

Well Sony, here's the thing. The smartphone game is a very competitive business. And when you do things like tell customers your phones are waterproof and then they turn out to not be waterproof, it makes people not trust you.
THEN, when you refuse to honor warranty repairs by fixing the water damaged phones you lied about in the first place it makes people angry. And angry customers won't be buying phones from you again. They'll be too busy telling their friends and family how terrible you are while buying the latest Galaxy, LG, HTC, Apple or one of the other million phones out there instead.
Like I said, it's a tough business and if you don't understand customer service you won't be in business for long.

I never understand why these manufacturers insist on modifying the UI, just keep stock android and add additional features to enhance it. I bet it will sell like a hotcake. What the point of having additional dedicate software engineers build in house android skin, waste of resources.

Its not that sony can't do it but they just don't want to do it .
Inspite of having some of the best audio , video and imaging technologies sony has struggled in its mobile business . The reason is simple they are not just bothered . They never took there mobile business very seriously . And that was a bad strategy because over the last 5 years it has been the most profitable business in electronics . Sony comes late to the party when profit margins are already shrunken. Same thing will happen to xperia . Xperia if it survives for another 3 to 4 years might be the best phone to buy but the party will be over by then.

If they made a 5"-6" phone with 1080x1920 screen, s820/adreno 430 SoC, very large (6000mah+) or removable battery, close to stock version of Android, no protruding camera (just make the phone fatter for larger battery) and a reasonable price point ($600-$800) then they'd get my money. Unfortunately not many people desire the same specs as me so it probably wouldn't keep them splitting, but at least I'd have a great phone ;).

1. Their phone lacks of features. Water resistant isnt enough, playstation? ah.. Potential buyers are not kids. The ui is uninspiring.
People dont buy their product bcz it has nothing, its featureless. Why buy expensive featureless phone if they can get nexuses, or chinese.
2. Their product quality and their technology are not good. Google knows it. Thats why they never make nexus

Using Snapdragon 810 for all their flagship models this year hasn't done Sony any good either. If Z5 premium was offered with 4 gigs of ram and an Exynos chipset it would have been my next phone.

Why should use the Cybershot namely by the Sonyericson? they already create a lot new and latest camera features, are you going to buy it because the features or the name?
The main problem is the competitor and fans always trolling everywhere to defame Sony, even the latest Z5 also slandered by them, the competitors and their fans mention the overheat issue and spread false news to let buyer lost their faith from Sony.

Well, Long awaited, required and demand of people all over the world...
- Sony should bring its walkman series with Driod touch.
- Stop making similar designs which makes hard to know which Sony model is there.
- Sony must focus on design and get rid of only Xperia tag, do something different.
Currently its not Sony which is known for Music, design and imagination.
Wake up Sony, you can do lot batter !!!
