Diego, 14 Oct 2015At 1nm (maybe even at 10) you start to get weird quantum tunneling effects, so the transistors... moreIMPOSSIBLE???

I'm working in a foundry and we already have working 10nm chip and we are working on 7nm and 4nm.

AnonD-387282, 15 Oct 2015there will be no more snapdragon 840 i guess it will be snapdragon 1000 with 10yoctometer. lolWe haven't moved to Angstrom yet and you are talking about Yocto? You sure are fast.

10nm process is the best way for killing Overheating Issue & give more space for other components

          by the way, where's Mediatek?
          ooww...they want make 100-core processor

By changing the architecture and incorporating quantum phenomenon as part of the design, TFET or some similar design will overcome the current limitations and help us to get us closer to 1nm dies.

Some good papers available at the IEEE website.

                810 ,820, 830,840....

What about move mid-range line up to smaller process?

next gen 600 series will still based on 28nm process, not talking about 400 series.

                Thank you, Qualcomm!

AnonD-444106, 14 Oct 201510nm not 1 nm Why everybody say this isnt possibleAt 1nm (maybe even at 10) you start to get weird quantum tunneling effects, so the transistors will give false readings. This makes it impossible to build transistors that small.

Why they don't start using graphite? Why wait anymore? All improvements of the microchips are related just to make it smaller and smaller. They should invest in R&D and make other improvements to chips and not some marketing gimmick improvements but real improvements.

While it's certainly possible to produce 10nm chips right now it's simply too expensive to do on a large scale yet. As far as mass production goes 14nm is cutting edge technology at the moment.
For months now every time a snapdragon 810 phone is released comments on gsmarena read: "omg epic fail! Y no snapdragon 820???!!!1"
And now it finally happened: "omg snadpragon 820 epic fail lulz!!!!1 y no 830???"

Qualcomm is fabless, so news is worthless. It would depend on available techprocess from semiconductors that accept orders from third parties - Samsung and TSMC.
