My friend owns N97 and 40% of the time Ican't hear what he says. My other friend is using Moto U9 with Crystal Talk and I can claarly hear what he says...even during a carnival.
JohnBo, 25 Feb 2010The reason everyone has the iPhone is because its the best overall phone. they force deals with providers with price plans of their liking and force providers to choose apple's way or no way
i live in canada and 4 providers have the iphone now and they all have the same price plans...... now tell me what's wrong their bud
it's not a high end smartphone like the n900 and nexus one or even the HTC HD2
it's a low end smartphone like the 5800 with a nice presented look
i own the N900 and 5800
they are both really well constructed phones
you obviously think everything is crap if apple's logo is not on it i can tell
my friends always ask to use my n900 to watch movies and play snes on the big screen since we both have wii controllers
100,000+ can only do so much but it can't improve the hardware
and yes the N900 is 95% closest to a laptop not a damn iphone
The iPhone is winning because it's easy to use. It's the smartphone for the average user. I'd be watching for the downfall of Nokia as the iPhone eats into Nokia's sales.
With the way Apple has negotiated with most providers, the iPhone on contract usually costs half as much your non-contract Nokia phone. And that's what's really going to eat into Symbian's marketshare.
Symbian really, really needs to innovate to keep up with Android, the new WinMo and the new iPhone that'll be out in months. Otherwise it's dead.
...and this is coming from a Nokia fan.

It has the best applications, the best web browser, the best user interface, the best copy paste implementation, the best music management...the list goes on. The only thing that comes close is Android but there are no Android phones on the market half as good looking as the iPhone. People hate the iPhone because everyone has them but there's a reason for that, its the best phone around. People compare the iPhone to N97 or X5800, I used to have an X5800, its garbage compared the iPhone. The sluggish interface an counter intuitive interface ruin the experience. just me 2 cents.

Look at the figures
The best thing I've done so far this year is to move to the Bold 9700 having used both it blows the iPhone away,
Stop bashing iPhone, this is clearly telling you how good this phone is. People love this phone for it's very user-friendly interface. People are not buying this coz of the hype, it's because it's the best experience you can have in a phone. The AppStore itself is a blast, you'll get everything you want and most of them are FREE! Take that, FREE! And for the haters, I pity you, open your eyes and stop pretending try an iPhone today and you'll be surprised.
From an iPhone user since 2007. I'm not blinded by the hype, it's just one bloody damn good phone!

I'm pretty sure theres 3 iPhones

Dash, 24 Feb 2010To OJ,
Nokia have the biggest portfolio of budget handsets which is not a bad thing, im no ... moreAndroid became from 0.5% to 3.9%. Don't look at the % multiplied. Look at the % difference, the % increase. Its 3.4%. Compare that to iPhone's is 6.2%. iPhone with just 1 phone.
Its interesting to note the losers :
Symbian (Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson etc) : - 5.5%
Microsoft Windows Mobile (HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Asus, Toshiba, Acer etc) : - 3.1%
Linux (Motorola etc) : - 2.9%
Other OSs : - 2.3%
The one's who gained :
iPhone OS (Apple) : + 6.2
Android (HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Acer etc ) : + 3.4%
Blackberry OS (RIM Blackberry) : + 3.3%
WebOS (Palm) : + 0.7%
It can be seen that every OS apart from Symbian and WinMo have gained market share.
Year-2009 has been the year of touch screen based phones. Blackberry gaining marketshare is somewhat an anomaly. And the oldest touch screen based OS, WinMo losing marketshare just tell you about the trend (set by iPhone).
Apple gaining the most with just one phone is the most surprising aspect of the report. And to think about its shortcomings also tells us about the importance of marketing and sale strategy. Another trend to look out for.
Symbian becoming open source will, hopefully, make it gain the lost ground. Already Vivaz and Vivaz Pro look promising. That along with N97 mini, X6 and some Samsungs will make it get there.
Windows Phone 7 with its new found concern to ensure "smooth and comparable UI experience over various devices" and its sky high hardware requirements ( http://www.gsmarena.com/minimum_hardware_requirements_for_windows_phone_7_revealed-news-1470.php ) is experimenting in a way only Microsoft can. How it'll help them is still to be seen.
Android is growing but still no where close to the fan following of Windows OS or Nokia (Maemo, Symbian). It has a tough task ahead to gain even more. Nexus One and Milestone are looking good.
Apple if gets some iPhones that are more affordable will certainly gain even more, but only if it does that before competition (Android, Symbian^3) gets there. But it seems they are more interested in profit making than improving market share.
Blackberry's numbers are extremely impressive but I personally feel that they have reached market saturation. It'll be interesting to see their strategy if they plan to improve market share. Just holding on to their market share from a directed competition to their kind of phones (particularly from Nokia E-series and to some extent Samsung and Sony Ericsson) is going to be difficult. Otherwise, it is almost given that they'll be on the losing side next year.
All in all this race will certainly be benefiting the End User, i.e. you and me.

But Nokia took a 5.5 percent dive in the smartphone market share which is huge! Open source Android OS seem to be growing from strength to strength and if this trend continues were will Symbian be?? Which as you say, Nokia makes up the majority.
