Mark, 25 Feb 2010Microsoft is an arrogant company that supply unstable and average quality products. Wake up mi... moreOk dude your post seems like a BS post to me. MS is delivering bad products? MS only delivered the OS, they never made the hardware. HTC for example does that.
And yes, Windows Mobile has its weak points. But with WinMo7 they are going to change that. That is why most people are so excited with the Windows Phone 7. Look at the future dude..
The specs seem OK to me, since the first phone will come out in end of 2010. People cry about to high specs? Oh my god.. you really just HAVE to complaint about something do you?
you know? if software (winpho + apps) could be optimized to run on that hardware you can send man to the moon with your hanheld device :-)
Microsoft is an arrogant company that supply unstable and average quality products. Wake up microsoft, other companies are way ahead. I wish I got an Android phone instead of a window.
The problem with bringing the gigahertz myth to smartphones as what has happened to PCs in general; it allows the half @$$ing of what the OS should or could do code-wise.For example look at how it took Vista for MS to finally clean house with 7.Win 7 Ultimate minus Aero can run on old Pentium M + 512Mb RAM + Intel 915GM heck of a lot better than Vista can. This is discounting the fact that power consumption claims are still being thrown around the room.nVIDIA touts Tegra/Tegra 2's power consumption's numbers here and there but I still don't see any major manufacturer willing to make the jump.Surprisingly Intel managed to get LG on its Moorestown game but guess what's the usual observers' worry?Yup..Batt life and form factor.Andy Rubin's remark on requirement dependency for future Android versions on older phones at N1's launch caused a bit of a confusion since 2.1 cookies are now out and reportedly runs just fine on Qualcomm MSM 7200A 528 MHz processor driven HTC Hero. And guess what it's coming out officially eventually anyways.Granted that the man's lucky that there's an active community of devs behind Android willing to fix what's broken or even make it better. There's something to be learned there.Personally I look at this news as MS giving out the usual RECOMMENDED specs. There's a reason why there's N1 and why HTC readies Desire 1Ghz and Legend 600Mhz to cover the bases.Sure WinPho 7's aiming for iPhone's pizzazz but in widespread adoption's case PRICE makes or breaks the deal, supported by a solid OS.Second comes apps.I know someone's gonna yell about apps but look at RIM and Nokia's latest numbers for units sold and understand why despite platform, slow phone tech uptake AND apps lacking they're still king of the hills.RIM for NA smartphones and Nokia for cellphone all categories combined globally. When necessary functions are done right like it or not that's what matters most to most folks AND people can afford to get models suited to their needs it's a done win.
Hmmm it seems like they are making sure winmo 7 is going to be future proof. 1Ghz does not sound ridiculous...especially seeing that win7 phones won't be out until the end of the year...so a year from now a lot of people will expect any new phone they, no matter the the OS to be running around 1Ghz anyway. Stop complaing about the "high" minimum
I am willing to bet that Windows Phone 7 will be a success. And it´s a good idea to raise the bar, especially after what Samsung has done on the software side of the i8910, and after what Nokia has done on the hardware side of the 5800 and n97.
That's why Vista fall bcos of demanding too much hardware requirements. Finally they hv to come back by Windows 7 which can run on current systems. Phone 7 will be the same "Fall" if it demand high hardware spec.
Ivan, 24 Feb 2010Why are peopele always complaining?! I nominate the human being for the most dissatisied creat... moreWell said ivan!!!Those damn haterz, just want sumting2 whine about!1ghz cpu iz common.Come on punks, itz 2010!So when u complain about d high standard of Win mo 7,it just do not make sense!Cell phones are getting so high tech, soon u will c 2.5ghz cpu.LOL!!!I wanna c d future phones....Looking sweet so far!
All Win OS stuff always requires big engines...they need optimization on everything they do...
CPU and GPU requirements seems ok.
The suspected RAM requirements also.
But screen size at 3.6 inch?
I think SE will show other companies that small phones like x10 mini and x10 mini pro has a large market potential. Smart phones, that perhaps isnt used too much for browsing, just like status updates, and looking at some ne published pictures... But able to run training coach software, different music players, services like spotify, street navigation by foot, playing basic games....
3.6 is still way too small for office applikations, for surfing real webpages, for comfortably watching videos, even 4.3 is too small, and bigger phones than that will have a hard time fitting in average users pockets.
what? if someone come up with a cool and uniqe design, they simply cant use WinPhone 7... that seems stupid by microsoft.
Hussein, 24 Feb 2010Well, I knew the hardware requirement would be high, but I didn't expect them to be that high.... moreIt's more about future-proofing the OS than anything else. 1 GHz today is uncommon. In 6 months when these phones comes out and soon after that, virtually every smartphone will have a 1 GHz processor.
It's good they set the bar that high. They are going to be releasing in half a year. By that time, 1 GHz processors will be more commonplace. Setting the requirements that high let's the future proof the phone a little.
They just relegated Android to be the poor man's OS with these high requirements.
ok, 1 GH for the smooth interface, even if the UI is crap... but what about the battery life ...???
paulo, 24 Feb 2010i dont know much about windows mobile but this sounds to me a bit like windows vista, minimum ... moreNo, it doesn't work like that. The 1GHZ is MORE than enough to let the phone run smoothly. M$ is making this the minimum for hardware manufacturers so insure that every Windows Phone that comes off the assembly line has a buttery smooth interface. A slow interface (HTC Touch anyone?) Can totally ruin the experience for the user. M$ just wants to make sure they don't put a bad impression on anyone
Ivan, 24 Feb 2010Why are peopele always complaining?! I nominate the human being for the most dissatisied creat... moreGood post, Ivan. I agree with everything you say. So many people just wanna scream without reason. Our species is pretty dumb, in general.
The question is, will current phones on the market, ie the hd2 - be able to run wm7?
Way to go MickeySOFT :) Maybe they should make CPU requirement at least 2GHz 2CORE. 1 CORE just for the OS and 2nd core for the GUI :D Anyway Screw MickeySOFT. I had it with their BLOATED Operating systems and software. I have migrated all of my home computers to loozer friendly LINUX distributions. And since I am planing to buy a smartphone. It will have either LINUX/ANDROID or symbian (Since it is OPEN source) operating systems. And it probably will be much cheaper :)
