yeah that's the wise decisions for company if you want to earn lot for this year you need to sale low cost of smartphone that comes a good quality,and at the same time you have also a high end smartphone,, cause not all people can afford to buy a high end smartphone ,,, samsung strategy they make lot of version of their phone they have high end, they have also low end llike nokia did, aside from their phone high end for people rich they have also sale with a low cost... if sonny continue to sale low cost and lot of version of smartphone i am sure they will ear more...

One day I thought to buy my first smartphone. I used my friends's iPhone 5 and iphone 6 and started to hate its basic design and user interface. I desided to buy an android phone. And searched many times for powerful smartphones. I wanted to buy Samsung galaxy s5. My old friend recommended me to buy Sony Xperia z2. I liked Sony's design and went to buy z2 but z3 is already released and I bought a z3... Now I have Z3 and it is amazing phone... Better than iPhone 6 and Samsung galaxy s5 or s6...

But now I just dont see the reason to buy new phone every year. I used other brands and phones but my main phone was always Xperia, starting from Xperia X1 and going from mid ranges android to Xperia Z series. But I just dont see the reason to buy new phone every year. 3-4 year is just perfect to change phone, because in this time most of phones doesnt change that much, even in terms of performance, still even my old XZ is capable of running any game and app without a problem.

So, many people think the manufacturers are making price choices according to their likes. Please let's stop and think a little. What defines the prices are the costs which aren't low taking in that Sony flagships are made from metal and glass which need some more than plastic...

I don't agree about making price lower... Sony flagship phones will be expensive and very powerful... Don't want to spend big money? Buy budget or mid range Sony phone... That's just your choice... For me Samsung (lagsung) and Apple (icrap) suck... I have Sony Xperia Z3 and extremely satisfied... Thanks Sony for it's build quality...

It becomes harder and harder to justify R&D costs if that's where you position yourself in the market. The Chinese manufacturers literally buys parts in bulk, assemble 'em together, and sell 'em. You simply can't beat this or even do this as pioneers advancing mobile technology. In other words, Sony sells brand, they can't afford to sell brand when they're shoulder to shoulder with lower tier brand.
If Sony drops price to $300-500 per flagship you will see them go bankrupt faster than Apple or Samsung selling their first 5 million phones.
China: "I see what you did there, I can do that cheaper."
You can't beat this. lol

weewee, 29 Oct 2015now i see. their mobile division still sucks.Their sales sucks but their phone rocks. Because I as a Xperia user would take atleast three years to buy another. Maybe your phone is only good for a year or two. That's the difference.

Companies really make a profit with the high end units than with ... moreApple base their selling on its name, and long term of advertising their product as a "amazing premium" and probably more than half of their buyers will buy it even if it would cost 2000$ because their literally rise their user base based on that.
Sony and other brands are actually in the same position like any other chinese brand like xiaomi, oppo or huawei. They can advertise they phones as a premium device but today its not gonna work. Different times.
And when those chinese brands make good phones with REALLY good quality(seriously every year its better and better) and still provide 300-500$ price tag for them Sony and other Brands gonna disappear if they gonna still think that people would buy their 700-800$ phones because its advertising as a premium or flagship.
You think why those chinese companies get on top in less than 3-4 years, companies like xiaomi or oppo? few years ago no one know what is that. Now, because they give you almost the same hardware, good quality device and all that with less money than eg Sony or HTC they slowly gonna rule market
Sony would not lost ANYTHING if they would lower the prices, now its pure greed and lack of seeing of "Big Picture". Just like HTC they live in old times, and that why those companies have problems.

Companies really make a profit with the high end units than with the mid to entry level ones. The electronics cost almost the same so the markup in the flagship is what really gets the money rolling. Take Sony, they make a bunch of phones a year and have billions in revenue yet they loose money. apple makes the billions in revenue and billions in profit...their phone cost peanuts(100 to 200 dollars) to make as shown in studies, yet they sell it for 800+ dollars.
