You run a business to make profit - lots of it, at the cheapest cost. You sell some cookies or lemonade in the neighborhood with some margin to earn a living, right? Well Apple does the same thing, only on a global scale. It just so happens Apple got very lucky, and did most of the right business decisions - they created their own brand. And now they are the envy of the business world.
I don't know about Apple products, but for sure I have to admire their profitability as a business.

"It will only go down" LLLOOOLLL
Yeah keep dreaming, it can only stay on top and MAINTAIN that position. So STFU and there are ALOT of people who buy iPhone and they are not "fanboys"!!!
Anonymous, 17 Nov 2015Oh my gosh. You are so obssesed with apple, you liken Apple with Mercedes and Samsung and othe... moreMercedes is a brand that sells luxurious cars only, which apple is doing. Kia is a car brand that sells cheap cars up to luxurious cars, which is what samsung and every android oem (except vertu, for example) out there are doing. Samsung's j series might be the kia rio, while note series could be k900. A k900 is a premium car but it still has the kia brand.

According to this report just under 40% of phones sold made almost 100% of profit. So any company that isn't Apple or Samsung are breaking even or losing money on smart phones?
Almost 60% of all phones are sold at cost or a loss?
I find that hard to believe.

Muthu, 17 Nov 2015Not only you, but there are few others like you who just do not get the point. Others made los... moreI don't understand this either to be honest. Why include losses as negative profits?
Why no Huawei and Xiaomi (3rd and 4th in market share)
Where do these estimates come from and how were they calculated?
Why does the company have genuity in its name? (Like how North Korea calls itself democratic :P)
Does it detract software costs and other costs like advertising?
More importantly does it include software profits? (Google not included in figures, how much of Apple is due to software profits?)
Not having a go at you, and not saying the above questions change anything fundamentally, just curious :-)

abeloco, 17 Nov 2015Eat this.... Android fans!
Ok, let me make some predictions now. iPhone was competing against Android flagships (all put together) in the last 3 years AND won the battle convincingly and easily. In the next 2-3 years, the battle is going to be iPhone vs Android midrangers. And it is going to be Android midrangers who will win the battle. The below are my theories.
1. Not all iphone buyers are apple fanboys, who don't care for money. A percentage of them (I don't know that number at this point in time) do value money and found iphone to be the best meeting their needs.
2. Those who do value money will find better alternatives in Android midrangers in next 2-3 years and will stop buying iphones.
3. Apple is only catering to "Premium" segment in phones (which cost > $600). Apple will continue to be the King of "Premium" segment.
4. But "Premium" segment which consists of about 250 million devices shipped in 2015 will shrink, shrink and shrink further in the next few years, before hitting a level where it consists of only fanboys and heavy users who actually need high power in their mobiles.
5. With shrinked premium segment, the market share in $/profit earned by apple has only one way to go - come down, not up.
Ok, I have made some bold predictions here. Either I will look like a fool after 1 year OR great with hindsight. Let us see what future holds for.
Apple earned 95% and Samsung earned 11%, others earned.... Am I the only one that sees a problem with this math? Something about this report is fishy......

Apple are the MOST profitable company on the planet and just made the iPhone5 physically bigger added Apple Pay and called it the iPhone6, 2 year contract upgarde to the same phone
Never had the bug so this report is a repeat of the same reports the authors released earlier.
It almost make you wonder if Apple reduced the price by 50% would it mean more sale or would those people abandon Apple as not seen as a premium device
When a company draws so much profit from you, you know you're being fleeced. This graph is exactly why I'll never buy apple.
