Buy a Pixel C, a tablet with keyboard by Google. It Runs Android so it will be more productive than using Chrome OS. There are cheaper Android tablets than can be connected to keyboard. So lot of apps more power. All for just under $150.

I find myself using it all the time for basic browsing and media streaming, more so than my Windows laptop and since a lot of people spend the vast majority of their time in a web browser it's not surprising why so many are beginning to warm up to Chrome OS especially since it's virus free and very lightweight, and all CB's are excellent in the battery life department way better than more powerful laptops. You're kinda right about the business aspect of your argument I would prefer to use a more versatile OS like Windows that has much wider software/IT support.

My point was simple, Chromebooks can't do much, and my phone can already do what it does. (It has all the software (apps) Chrome OS has, and so).

I have used Ubuntu and a very light Linux distro called Puppy linux, works well on even an old Pentium III.
So there are lot of better alternatives. But the moment you decided to start your own business, it's Windows or OS X (Mac). Linux and Android will be just tools that support the main business function. Believe me I had to learn it the hard way $$$$$.
Linux, Chrome, are more stable but what to do. We have to weigh in all the sides and keep an optimum balance.

Ubuntu is the best alternative to Windows. There is huge app repository for Ubuntu some of the apps are available in Windows as well.

Oh it's worth saying that it's easy to install and dual boot Linux on it...So there's that.

Even a very basic smartphone can do all the functions of a Chrombook. A cheap Android tab would be a easy replacement. The problem with using a phone and tablet is they don't have a physical keyboard for fast and accurate typing and small screen size. Otherwise buying a Chromebook is a bad idea. If I really need a laptop I wouldn't consider a Chromebook. It can't run full desktop applications.
