Because BBRY has four different divisions, three of which can be considered software, and the hardware division. Two divisions have routinely been profitable - QNX and BES. The other two - BBM and the handset division, struggle. But QNX is in 2 out of every 3 new cars sold, and also has a monopoly in the medical industry, so that is keeping this company afloat.
TLDR - Blackberry isn't going to die just because they struggle with handsets.

There's a chance they'll release another handset but most likely the priv is pivotal to whether or not they turn into just a software company.
But have you seen the profit yields? What they make in software is tiny so far.

I see many people talking about BlackBerry getting bankrupt.In the last 20 months the company acquired 5 companies.The last company they acquired was $425 Million.
They are now seeing more money every quarter for the last 2 years.They are not doing well in the handset division but they are doing well in other things they do.BlackBerry is not only in a handset business .They do other things too.

I like the part where they sold out and left their most loyal customers, the BB10 users, without a clear upgrade path.

Ali, 05 Dec 2015Saved money for this device finally bought it and after 1 week sold it. The device was getting hot.You sold it because it gets hot. And Blackberry just released software updates that fix a lot of the issues that were causing the over heating. If I saved my money up to buy a phone I would have waited the week or two for them to fix the issue.
