Do not forget, without Samsung Semiconductor, Iphone wont have its processor, nor its flash memory. Without Samsung Display, Iphone wont have its display. Thus without Samsung R&D, do you think Iphone can support these functions without the hardware capability?

Despite people bashing around here, the fact is iPhone is still the most wanted out there, sure nokia and other brands are still number one in terms of quantity, yet they still copy a lot of iPhone features--most of them failed, even the famed nexus one is cheating their fans-just for your notes,HTC made nexus one, that alone is enough for me to stop my desire to buy one.
they contribute almost nothing about touchscreen phone, except winmo with its dying OS,small cheap resistive screen, unfriendly interface.
After iPhone become trendsetter, suddenly every brand started creating large screen with higher resolution, simplified their UI,adding more powerful processor in order to overcome their stupid OS,make their own App.store, even business oriented smartphone like Blackberry launched their own touchscreen--Total failure product--one particular brand tried creating their own, despite their known history for abandoning their loyal fans with lousy after sale service, some even implemented their version of multi-touch with pinch zooming, with only so little people know it's not multi-touch,it could handle dual-touch only since the real multi-touch can handle up to five pointers/fingers in the screen,so what are they doing all of this time?
Yet all the efforts above still can't stop the growth only 3 phones from a single newcomer with outdated hardware--even my 3Gs is outdated for me--in smartphone business.
No matter what they're trying to do,no matter how the haters bashing iPhone here, the fact is still out there : iPhone is still the most wanted smartphone on earth.

Iphone is a Smartphone.
Wow, that multitasking is a let down. I wonder if iPhone will let users disable multitasking - then I can have my jailbroken version of multitasking enabled (which doesn't require the API to be programmed in). HA!
What the hell are apple playing at! This os is still 3 years out of date. The iphone 4 will be another let down because the hardware will be as usefull as a choclate teapot! I think steve jobs is a brilliant con man!

The argument is over, and you are wrong.

Thats from http://www.ceva-dsp.com/index.php
I'd take their definition over a mad forum troll or a google page by a Apple hater any day.
All iphone haters its enough you say that iphone sucks it has no multitasking, blah blah blah who cares.Let people buy what they want, iphone is very expensive nearly 1000$ which is like 3-4 times the price of nokia 5800 but why did the 5800 fail to really beat the iphone on sales because as most of you claim its a better device with a better os which has multitasking and so many great features which the iphone lack and even better its au a cheaper price. imagine if an unlocked iphone was sold for like 300$ i know most of you would've been hailing apple as the best company ever.If you can't afford don't hate just shut up and stick with your phone !

Unfortunately since ~2000-2001 => ~10 years ago they do.
And to finis this argument I want to add:

-multimedia, music, videos
Oh and let's not forget PSP
Lucky for us neither microsoft nor sony are such smugs to call their firmwares OSes.
Otherwise we had PlaystationOS and XboxOS
I could call a PS3 "my pc" the same way you call Iphone, a smartphone.
Either way, regarding iPhone & you owning one...
I never met a dog owner that didn't say his the best and smartest dog in the world.
Lucky for you, iPhone is an object, normal people do not get attached to objects.
Just because it's yours it doesn't mean it's... well the best and smart part have been ruled out since the first device...
So sell it like the rest of us or learn to live with it's flaws, but stop expressing your frustration on public forums.

An OS ALWAYS HAS multitasking. Mulititasking is not application dependent via an API, the way it is in OS 4.0.
Perhaps it will be a 'kinda OS once more apps take benefit from that api.
Second, an OS has configurable components whether it is open-source or not.
Eg. see the multiple builds you can find for any windows phone.
Last but not least an OS runs on multiple devices, not target devices only.
EG: symbian, linux, wmobile, windows etc.
Hence iPhone = a ridiculous mixture of firmware and customized OS components.
