I had the Moto G Gen 2 and once Marshmallow became available it was notifications for me all the time from Motorola to upgrade. I couldn't get rid of them and they were showing up several times daily so I assumed it was vetted for that phone and that Motorola really thought it critical to do so.
Well, it turned into a real mess. Battery drains, despite what they say about Marshmallow being better on batteries. I was deleting apps and turning off others which used to run all day long with no ill effect trying to keep a full charge to last 4 or 5 hours instead of about 8. Problems with apps slowing down. The entire phone was staggered sometimes. And it started heating up when listening to podcasts or such.
Then the other day, closing Chrome because of problems and figuring I'd reboot the phone, it went in to endless reboots, optimizing apps taking an hour at a time. I'd wind up with a black screen showing only the time and control buttons. I couldn't even get it to shut down; it would have to go through 3 of those cycles before turning off. I tried using a fastboot to clear the cache, perhaps put it into safe mode, or perhaps eventually doing a factory reset. But chatting with their techs this couldn't be done. It was DOA.
Then talking to someone on the phone he said it couldn't be repaired. I asked are you not supporting the gen 2 anymore. He said yes. So now I need a new phone. I'm probably going to need to get a gen. 3 because my carrier, who I like, has a limited range of phones they support. But now I wonder how long the Gen 3 Moto G will be supported? Gen 2 only came out something like 1.5 years ago?
The worst part is the Internal Storage is now useless to me. I hadn't done a recent backup to my PC and I'm not sure if my documents have been backed up by Google. Supposedly other stuff has since it synced recently, but I have found that a crap shoot in the past. I will probably suffer with smaller storage and set up my next SD card as portable. I would recommend to stay with Lollipop as I saw no advantages to Marshmallow and only problems. And think long and hard before going with the internal storage option.

I had th same problem of running out of internal storage space nd ended up removin all my apps jst 2 keep a minimum space required. You can make ur sd card as internal 2 create space in storage setup. You can find th setup in th storage option in systen settings. Although 4 me this was causin my sd card 2 become corrupted resultin in loss of some data on th sd card. Th best option is to downgrade bck 2 lollipop 5.1.1.
I updated my phone (moto G 3) to the marshmallow update. This update caused my phone to be slow and doesn't respond the way it should. My touch home button isn't working properly since yesterday. Some apps aren't responding right away, they are very slow to respond then a pop up message reads that the app has stopped. Something in my phone has taken the entire space in my phone internal storage. I've rebooted it many times. Sometimes it optimizes the phone (and takes a long time before getting to my home screen). I'm having difficulties understanding the phone. I've had it this March. How do I clear up the internal storage? I use an SD card but somehow my PC won't sync up with my phone. Help. How do I transfer things to my SD card? How can I get my PC to read my phone's presence?
I had read all th comments bfo updatin my moto G3 so imediately recievn nd instalin my update, i removed my sd card nd sim card, turnd it off nd performed a hard reset nd formatd my card wth my PC. Since thn i havnt had any problems. A hard reset imediatey afta updatin is wat i recomend.

Updated moto G 3 to marshmallow 3 days back. Smooth performance. Battery performance improved after 2 days of use. Initially it was bad. Facing laf in swipe down gesture for notifications in Nova launcher. Other than this all working great. I will recommend all to upgrade. During upgrade I removed my sd card. Formated sd card on my pc and then inserted again in phone. I selected sd card as mesia storage. After upgrade I did catche partition clear updated all apps and again did catche partition clear.
