Anonymous, 27 Dec 2015so your saying samsung vr is the very first vr?No I am not saying that.
We don't even know what the breakthrough is yet, but we can be fairly certain they didn't just copy some feature of Samsung's VR, or they wouldn't have called it a major breakthrough.
Tcool, 27 Dec 2015It is not a breakthrough, it is a copy cat from Samsung Gear VR.There isn't any chance they "copied" samsung on anything on this. Valve was working in conjunction with oculus on the rift before they sold to facebook, and valve was the one that did a lot of the initial research on the oculus, which is the basis for the samsung gear vr.
The reason valve came out with their own hardware for VR had to do with the way the oculus sale went down.

Thank you FCC Thank you HTC. I will buy M9 now to use it with Vuze !! :)
if its not like the nervegear in SAO then i wont touch any vr headsets yet...
Its a breakthrough yes but not big, those device still relies on the handset's gyro or accelerometer to detect movement, if they can add eye movements so its not too straining to the user's brain then were talking. a VR dive device is something worth waiting for now. let say this is the start then.. capishe?!
mir, 26 Dec 2015That very very big breakthrough will already be obsolete once the device gets released to the ... moreProbably not as they're currently a leader in this sector. Companies can also make better products by the time a finished product comes to market but the cost of tech is world's apart. You can see from the smartphone industry that every year better products come out but this is slightly different. HTC have also taken a different approach to VR and it's ahead of the other VR companies currently. If anything the tech will become cheaper and more widely available so don't moan. This is how the world works.
ali lucid, 26 Dec 2015well i dont except a "very very big technological breakthrough" from HTC but i may b wrong.. ... moreUsing their smartphone business as a model for this is dumb... You forget (or don't know) that this project is partnered with Valve (the guys behind Steam, in case you didn't know that either) and they don't mess about (unless Half-Life 3 is mentioned). Not only that a lot of reviews have placed this above the Oculus Rift and Sony's Project Morpheus, so when the current industy leader (as the company with the best overall headset so far) says they've made a big breakthrough, they're probably not joking. They also took a unique approach and this may be the reason why they're made this big advancement. To be honest the biggest thing they could probably improve at the moment is the battery life of a truly wireless headset.
That very very big breakthrough will already be obsolete once the device gets released to the market in april.
AnonD-452856, 26 Dec 2015Looks promising!well i dont except a "very very big technological breakthrough" from HTC but i may b wrong..
a company whoz flagships still provide the screen to body ratio of 68%, a company who sells a helio x10 based smartphone at 450$....i dont expect any sort of breakthru from such a company but again may b theyl prove me wrong
