AnonD-473183, 31 Dec 2015And where's your proof? Display mate and ale very professional display analysis says even last... moreOmg, first and foremost, I am not Apple or Samsung fanboys. Second Apple wanted high quality LCD, so they turned to JDI for Iphone 6, 6s, and 6 plus. Third, Apple knows that there's high demand of Oled for the current market, so Apple invested in Joled (another division of JDI) to build several plants for the production of Advanced Super Amoled. Apple turned to Samsung just in case if Apple don't procure enough Amoled from JDI.

AnonD-292154, 31 Dec 2015 You can check for the tests and stuff ; it's all over the internet. It was one flawed test that was getting relinked.

A proper test by tom's hardware shows that Samsung is superior. Please do keep crying.

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2015Samsung would not top JDI in terms of Display quality, but in quantity. And where's your proof? Display mate and ale very professional display analysis says even last year's samsung displays destroy this year's JDI displays.

I wish you Apple fans would stop with your fanboy ism and give credit where it's due. Samsung is #1 in many component quality. I am not a Samsung fanboy. I am just an honest person. All these problems with Apple devices started when Apple started trying to replace Samsung. Funnily, Samsung was the reason why Apple products were solid. Now Apple products are buggy and low-grade due to non-samsung parts.

For god's sake, USE YOUR HEAD! Apple is using JDI right now and they're begging Samsung to sell them displays. What does that tell you?

Truth to be told; OLEDs are way better than LCDs. Samsung knows it, Apple knows it and even iPhone users know it.
In the past one could argue about maximum brightness for LCDs but things have started to turn around. OLEDs have started to close the gap thanks to Samsung that S6 can now push brightness north of 700 nits.
So, if the OLEDs are good then why didn't Apple use them in their iPhones and why the sudden interest?
They didn't use it because it's more expensive than traditional LCD's but now they have to use it because of the power efficiency. They can't just upgrade processors and hope to get the same battery life.
I'm neither a fan of Samsung nor of Apple, so Apple fanboys no hard feelings.

Also, it's a bit of common sense that Samsung is better. Why would TSMC lose so many customers to Samsung if Samsung was worse?

AnonD-292154, 31 Dec 2015 But Apple A9 chip made by TSMC was better. You can check on youtube. And Samsung displays are... moreAlso, the proof is in the pudding. Samsung STOLE TSMC customers despite having less capacity than TSMC and being in competition with their customers. You don't just change fab to one that benefits less from economies of scale, especially if the fab is competing with you, unless the process is much better.

Yeah, qualcomm, AMD and others are moving to their archrival Samsung just cause they felt like it... you need better thinking skills.

If TSMC was only slightly worse, they wouldn't change, but something must be seriously wrong with their process for them to completely change fabs. Either the yields are not up to snuff or there are design issues in the fab process that makes the processors underperform like how TSMC messed up 20nm for qualcomm.

Samsung's process is so much better than TSMC that they stole long-time TSMC customers. Think about it. Qualcomm must have been really disappointed with tsmc perforce that they reluctantly gave the business to their archival Samsung.

Samsung is already capped - out in 14nm production. They have nothing left for Apple.

Also, different manufacturers does not mean equal parts, as each display would be different techmologies. The Samsung display would top the other displays in Color accuracy, energy efficiency, brightness, and other qualities. With Samsung selling AMOLED to other android vendors, the iPhone is at the bottom of the barrel in terms of display quality. Apple is desperately trying to get Samsung displays on future iPhones.

Apple is a cheapskate and margins would be low.
That's why Samsung didn't really mention losing Apple in their financial guidance to investors, because Apple is easily replaceable with higher margin customers.

Samsung continued making YoY gains in their semiconductor business even after Apple cut orders. There are also issues with Apple starting to get lower sales. Samsung would be better served selling components to other OEMS like Huawei who are getting YoY sales increase unlike Apple who's looking to get YoY sales declines. The iPhone 7c is Apple panicking over bad 6s sales.
