I heard the HTC Vive is superior despite the oculus having a longer incubation period. But time will tell on that one. Mainstream VR is but a new experience...

Almand, 07 Jan 2016Would this show a vitual 3D world with a pixelated view like the Samsung VR headset?!They call it "screen door effect" according to the specs is 1080 Res. I tried a Vr headset with 4k phone and the Screen door effect was still there so I'm not trusting that they got that issue solved. What i don't get about the oculus is that you can get a pretty good VR experience with full 360 movement using a high end phone that you pop in a cheap viewer...so why the necessity to make a device that you need plug in to a high end PC?

AnonD-416078, 06 Jan 2016Which one is better this or HTC Vive? :P (Based on the demos I've seen of Vive it is amazing)The Oculus Rift has been in development and under focus for about 4 years. In that time Oculus have refined their product into something that they have shown off time and time again, they have that on their side. Keep in mind that the VIVA has similar hardware in it, so more than likely will hit the same price range.

        These are devices that have:
        2 shrunken 1080p monitors
        Accelorometer
        Motion sensors
The Rift comes with an XBox One controller (€60)
        Lenses
        Headphones

I would be shocked if the VIVE was released in anything less than a $500 price point, meaning it would be in a similar price bracket to the Rift

Thing is not that no one will buy it, ofc they will, but they said the retail unit will cost way less than the dev version they were selling to everyone, but devs. This is called fraud.

I will never understand people's mentality, "OH NO I can't afford it, that must mean no one else will buy it, because everyone else MUST be as broke as I am"... Ridiculous.

I'm also pretty sure I'm not the only one. But yes the PS VR as well as HTC Vive would make it a bit more mainstream. I just need to install windows on my linux box bleh.

Frankly it is a little expensive, but it's the first launch of the first commercial product, so I think the future seems bright. Personally, I already have 2 Xbox one controllers, so a basic bundle with just the headset and 100$ shaved off would make it for me.
