In the country where I live (Thailand) I have been recently seeing a lot of people sporting an iPhone 5s. Actually, I see more iPhone 5s this year than last year before the iPhone 6s was intoduced. It seems that every High School student has one.
The 32 GB that was sold 29000Baht (about 900 US in 2014 exchange rates, about 800 US today) when was first released has been dropped down to 20500 Baht and some telephone companies offer plans for a further reduction to about 16000 Baht (unlocked as always in Thailand). They also sell the 16 GB which is even cheaper.
I was recently reading an article that iPhone 5s achieves higher and more stable frame rates than Samsung Galaxy S6 or other newly released android flagships:

Surely the good performance of this phone has to do something with its reemergence as it still manages to beat (in some benchmarks, at least) current androids while its price gets reduced. And as it seems it will receive iOS 10, something that it must be a summer night's dream for an android device that old.
This phone has pioneered 64 bit and Touch ID sensor that some androids like S6 only managed them at a much later time (so you don't need to pay latest flagship prices to enjoy them).
If you don't mind the small size of its screen or its poor battery life (about 4 and half hours of continuous use like browsing the inetrnet) then at this price it is definitely, still, very relevant. You won't be disappointed or wait for half a year or ever to get an update.

The iphone 5s is perfectly explained because it received a huge price cut in India and suddenly seemed affordable. People just clamored to get it before the price went back up again. Looks like Apple had tons of iphone 5s to be dished out to make way for the upcoming Iphone 7c.
