"The writing has been on the wall for BlackBerry 10 for quite some time, and Chen has now conceded that there are no plans to launch BB10 devices in the future. The company will continue to support it and release updates for the beleaguered operating system, but this is the end of the road for BB10."

BlackBerry cant kill BB10. its the only OS that government official trust and use. If BlackBerry decides to kill it then it will also lose most or all of its corporate costumers.

Far from dead means that BB will keep supporting BB OS. Doesn't mean they make / innovate new stuff for that platform. They would probably simply maintain legacy devices for security patches. They have to considering how they have convinced businesses to use their platform. If they abandoned it, businesses will completely lose trust.

Any independant security company or individual can contribute as well and is rewarded in return. Many of the vulnerabilities found last year where made by individual security companies. As for that, at least Xiaomi have security updates sorted out: I get updates within 3 days of the release each month, and same can be said about their outdated headsets, even though they are on a older Android version.

I fell into the trap of believing the hype, and changed from BB10 to Samsung S4 at that time, and now running on 5.0.1. What on earth is all the garbage about how superior is Android OS. What absolute rubbish. Take away all the cheap apps and you have nothing compared to BBos10. It is time for BB to step up to the mark and get their OS in more mobiles and for commentators to stop ranting on about how good the insure Android is. From a daily operational perspective, BBOS10 is far superior. It is only because Android is cheap or free to hardware manufacturers that it has a dominate position.

That's good. I am about to purchase a Z30. Screw Android with its security issues and these greedy handset manufacturers (Samsung, LG, etc.) by not updating and leaving most of their handsets open to known vulnerabilities.

With Html5 technology no OS will be without apps. I think now it's time make new OS and UI's as every company and service will have html5 web/app mobile and desktop. Html5 have potential to become standard for creating apps and games for all OS.

BB OS is dead. Who is going to create apps and optimize service for BB browser/services when they realize the number of target customers can only goes down? BB is just trying to convince you to buy the remaining stock so they can fully migrate to Android.
