Microsoft even gives free subscriptions to students.
pika2000, 18 Jan 2016It's not a sensible marketing. Microsoft is never good at marketing. Think about who would buy... moreNo. I think people would choose windows phone for the free microsoft office app. You can't use the app properly in android phone. Seriously. I've tried some phones and all the Words document went out of places. It a hassle to fix it back.
Anonymous, 16 Jan 2016As you all said it has high price but I think that's how marketing works. I think I understand... moreIt's not a sensible marketing. Microsoft is never good at marketing. Think about who would buy this.
Windows Phone super fans: If these people existed, they would probably buy the 950 instead. If they don't have enough money, they would be waiting for price drop. And these fans would be more likely know enough about the spec and opted for either 640 or other models.
Techie customers: they would know about specifications, and for the money, there are too many Android phones offering better bang for the buck
New users to smartphones: these users are more price sensitive, and would opt for cheaper Android alternative than a $200+ Windows phone. Plus their friends will ask for x and y apps and once they don't see it on Windows Phone, they would not bite.
Microsoft is dropping Lumia brand, and this was probably a quick and dirty way (with cheap cost on MS part by using low end SoC) to clear the pipeline.

Buyers would not have to worry about waiting for the W10 update nor bother themselves checking every so often if W10 seed is already ready, or up and running
Me, 16 Jan 2016Come on!Overpriced!! It will be in the same price range as 640s. If they put 200EUR for this o... moreThese people thinking in android ways of pricing. They never considered this is not even android.
Come on!Overpriced!! It will be in the same price range as 640s. If they put 200EUR for this one, how much will then 850 cost!?Max 169EUR for this one (it has almost the same specs as 550)
it's gonna be a failure these morons at ms want the company to fail by releasing such products
Definitely overpriced if they really launch it with the rumored specs.
Is it just me or the people here so oblivious about Microsoft. Don't you guys know that Windows10 alone already priced at $119. Plus the phone hardware and stuff, $222 is considerably cheap. The chipset have nothing to do with the pricing. Stop blaming the SD210. If you see the built-up rate for this phone then you will know why.
Wanna ask .. what is Sd 210 .. i wanna buy Lumia 640 Xl is it Sd210 too ? . what do you think for 200 € what could be the best . Thank you in advance : )
pika2000, 16 Jan 2016You are assuming Microsoft can get some sales at that price. LOL.
Sales will be low, and then... morePeople buy things they like. This 650 certainly won't break sales records. But fans will still buy it.
Remember the Apples Hunchback battery case. It is ugly, cannot use earphone jack, expensive, has better alternatives. But Apple fans buys them.
As you all said it has high price but I think that's how marketing works. I think I understand them. It will have high price at beginning so they can have higher profits but after some months price will be lower so they can still earn higher profits and be not at loss. So, in marketing sense this is reasonable, just hope for them that sd210 doesn't put it off customers from buying even with lower price.
sr777, 16 Jan 2016Like Apple, Microsoft is also going to rip off it's users. You are assuming Microsoft can get some sales at that price. LOL.
Sales will be low, and then Microsoft will be forced to drop price to clear inventory. I think Microsoft will be losing money on this.
Considering phones like Moto G and Xiaomi have redefined what consumers expect at the $200 price range, this is pathetic. And that's just based on spec. There's still the question on the ecosystem itself. Do people want to pay that much for a platform with poorer selection of apps compared to Android?
On the other hand, this might be interesting if it's $100. Good luck Microsoft.
nokia will rock when it comes back they know exactly what their customer wants come back soon NK
