So they downgraded Exynos' performance so that it can be closer to Qualcomm's? Interesting.
BTW the real Geekbench scores of Exynos 8890 is 2200 on single-core and 7500 on multi-core. It seems they downgraded the performance by about about 20-25% across the board.
I kinda predicted it when Samsung decided that they're going to use SD820. What a sh**y move, now Chinese no-names with Helio X20 would offer better performance (2000 Single core, 7000 multi-core).
And don't get me started on GPU performance. It only matters to gamers and to them ... barely (most Android games use mid to low end graphics, they're not like IOS's which could use every last drop of GPU power).
AnonD-234961, 27 Jan 2016Apple A9 is dual core and smokes everything on the market. Core count does not matter. Apple had been "optimizing" benchmark apps like last time HTC and samsung did .
Sammy looks Fail...even in front of its own old chipset...Apple looks far Superior...
If those geekbench score are both the single and multi core scores put together, my Note5 has a total of 6007 😕
Ios apps use one or two cores, because Ishits have two cores. And therefore core count doesn't matter much on ios because one core is generally sufficient.
But in android at least for now, 95 %of the phones have at least 4 cores (and most of them have exactly 4 cores because sd800 sd801 sd805 sd600,400,410 all have 4 cores. So most of Android apps which want more power use at least 2 cores and games use 4 cores. There are very few games which make use of all 8 cores.
So in android, core count matters , at least upto 4.
This is for games, because for basic browsing, Facebook, WhatsApp u don't need s7.
And u said that there is no use of having more no of less powerful cores but u r wrong. Because if you have only two powerful cores, for simple scrolling, at least one powerful core will be used needlessly. In android, these less power hungry tasks are done by less powerful and efficient cores.

"Only single core performance and an excellent software optimization are important for a smooth running device! Thats why iPhones are working so well"..
You know that iphones have a Dual Core cpu right? Not single..
Anonymous, 27 Jan 2016I cant believe that there are people who wants 4 gb of ram or 8-core 2.2 Ghz processor.. Only ... moreYou must be the troll king I suppose. Cause even the premium trolls will find it hard to say that LG's UI is as smooth as iOS's. Jeez! In Android LG has THE WORST UI, period. Next is Samsung, but nobody could beat LG, so they lead, by a long shot too ;)
Also iOS works smoothly because of the OS itself, its a lightweight OS, so it performs smoothly on weaker hardware, something like Windows Phones.
Anonymous, 27 Jan 2016Apple's SOC scores high in only geekbench, which is optimized by apple. Geekbench did not say ... moreYou forgot all the web benchmarks and Basemark.
Geekbench cannot bench GTS chip which is used in Exynos, Snapdragon 810, Kirin for cluster migration. It only can bench either Big cores or small cores. 4800-5500 score you get for Exynos 7420 are of Big cores score. In single tread 2.1 GHz A57 gets nearl 1450 to 1500. That mean 4 Core will get 5800 to 6000. But in multi core processor cores get 97 to 99 percent scalling. That is why it gets slightly less score. Their is no 14nm A53 based SOC, but 1.5Ghz 28nm A53 gets 550 to 650. So 14nm will get 700 to 750 score. 4 of then will get 2800 to 3000. But in reality score will be 2200 to 2400. So totall score of Exynos 7420 will be 7000 to 7900. But geekbench only test Big cores and show it.
No no no,exynos version will be slightly worser for games because it uses Mali GPU which has allway been far away from adreno.adreno 530 is better than mali T880 even mali has 12 cores and adreno probably has 8 or 10.The CPU counts less these days on android, games are need a lot better GPUs and better optimization
I cant believe that there are people who wants 4 gb of ram or 8-core 2.2 Ghz processor.. Only single core performance and an excellent software optimization are important for a smooth running device! Thats why iPhones are working so well.. My next phone will be LG G5 because SD820 has an excellent single core performance and LG's software is as smooth as IOS.
Decision should be simple. If you are a hardcore mobile gamer, go for the Exynos. If you are a power user who prefers a good kernel and ROM go for whichever will have the better support from XDA, I guess Snapdragon is the preference there.
Apple's SOC scores high in only geekbench, which is optimized by apple. Geekbench did not say that both Android and iOS version are same. Do they use same binary or Apple's binary which is for apple and will perform worse in android. Is android version of geekbench use ART? And is it written native language or Java?
AnonD-491490, 27 Jan 2016This benchmark makes me more curious about how the single core performance is going to be on A... moreWon't be improved by much. A9 brought a huge leap because of the move to FinFET, allowing Apple to push clockspeeds. We will still be on 14nm FinFET when iPhone 7 releases, so I'm not expecting anything big.
AnonD-493960, 27 Jan 2016Of note, the screenshot with the device specs for the snapdragon 820 version has the processor... moreNo,its clocked to 1.59 GHz because the sd820 will have 2 clusters of cores like the sd810 for better battery life, one cluster of 2 cores clocked at 1.59 GHz for batter battery life and less intensive apps and one cluster of 2 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz which will be for gaming and browsing, those apps are sometimes shows only less powerful cores, but that doesn't means that all 4 cores will be clocked at that low frecuency
It's the single core score that matters! Most apps use only 1 core.
Impressed that the Exynos 7420 still performs solidly.
AnonD-472910, 27 Jan 2016the number of cores does matter, it may not carry the majority of the wait of the many factors... moreIt doesn't matter to much if an core is equal to 8 cores, why do you need 8 small cores when you can have 2 powerful cores ?,and the single core performance counts more than multi core, the only app that truly uses 8 cores is the browser so 2 cores will be better in real world usage because 2 cores are more frequently used than 8 cores
Dude.....pls read your comment again =)))
AnonD-234961, 27 Jan 2016Apple A9 is dual core and smokes everything on the market. Core count does not matter. Apple A9 smokes everything because it is cheating.
