My tablet is powered by Mediatek chipset and is running Kitkat 4.4 but luckily i recently installed an anti-virus app that also offer an anti-theft feature which is currently enabled on my tablet. Now it would have some folks who would want to use this as another reason to stay away from Mediatek but based on devices i have owned, i never had any problems with this manufacturer's chipsets, so quit antagonizing.

Some people here seem to be elitists; poorer people have a right to access smartphones. That's why Mediatek exists; they were meant to be cheaper (albeit weaker) alternatives to other chips which back then were prohibitively expensive.

"The chip-maker says the issue in question only affects Android 4.4 KitKat devices."

In a nutshell, almost 90% of Mediatek based Android devices since mediatek never updates its drivers sources to OEMs and developers update android versions.

mediatek makes good chipsets. it is just that certain apps arent optimised for it.

I just said that 100 dollar low-end phones will never see an update (and there are a lot of Mediatek chipsets inside these). Same with Snapdragon really, if there was a bug in Snapdragon SoCs, many of these would never see an upgrade.

Devices with a MediaTek SoC and Android KtiKat are the main offer by the low-tear of the market, and some of the mid-tear. This is a huge problem and only comes to prove MediaTek is not a good option for a purchase.

Come on man, even a kid knows tht mtk is no match for snapdragon . Yeah it dominates Chinese brands market but snapdragon is the top one always. Hell i dont even consider samsung exynos as first choice when it comes to buying mobile.
