Hardware wasn't the problem, software was. When the whole mobile world exploded with Android phones, they should have switch too. Nokia stuck with symbian way too long, and that's what doomed the company. Because most of the customers moved forward.

Microsoft instead of putting Nokia into good use, taking advantage of its manufacturing capabilities and its technical know how in designing some of the best camera smartphones ever produced, it chose to lay off most if not all of the people who were very experienced in their respective fields. In addition, Microsoft itself has no experience of the smartphone market. Apple and Google on the other hand, each has its unique strengths which as time passes become even more pronounced, constantly pulling ahead of Microsoft in the smartphone market. I believe that Microsoft is very close to the point of no return, meaning that if its global market share which currently stands at 1.5% approximately falls under 1%, then most probably it will pull out of the smartphone market since neither its sales volume nor its profit margin will allow it to maintain its business. In addition, another side effect of the decreasing global market share is the fact that its cost of production increases per unit, forcing Microsoft to price its products in such a way in which they lose any comparable advantage they might had otherwise in relation to their competitors.
Anonymous, 11 Feb 2016Nokia was struggling way before Microsoft.I know. I meant I'm glad that Microsoft is struggling to sell phones after the way they aquired Nokia Devices & Services
I started with a Samsung omnia W, then continued with L820 (2,5years!!) and now 640Xl. WP was a stable OS, w10m is stable and enhanced. App availability is good. Everything I want is available. I switched from an Android phone becuase it became unusable after 3 months (lags, non responsiveness, etc.). I will not switch unless I have to. Currently my only pain is that if I want to buy a new Windows phone, the one specs I desire are on sale....
For starters: on Windows you can Access your gmail, yahoomail, whatever you want. There is no limitation. The only limitation you have on the market oday is coming from Google: googlemaps is not available on Windows phone. Thing is that this is not a problem at all since the official map app is quite good.:)
Security: More secure than Android which has secuitity holes for years without patching.
Spying: If you dont like MS spying on you, check how google is doing that. You will be surprised.
Google is the MS of 20 years ago: not ethical at all and blaming others...
English not english,
and you shouldn't use comma before (before),
and he/she has the right to say his opinion regardless of his English.
Microsoft, you need to do something very quickly!! You are far away behind those other platforms. Especially the applications issue. The applications are much lesser and majority of it are outdated and third-party. I admit that WP is very awesome because of their tight security (I used Lumia 1520 once) but the apps are 'booming' the entire OS, no latest updates, lack of official apps. Windows 10 mobile is very beautiful but not much when it comes into the apps. It seems like screwing the entire phone.
Go Microsoft...do something. Make a change...I am always supporting you.
I will be sad to see the end of WP, do we really want to go back to the days when one company dominates the computer industry??
Competition is good, there are lots of things to love & hate about WP as there are with iOS & Android, it depends what you do with them!
Two things I hate about all current smartphones is there size (far too big) and battery life (far too short) !!!
Nobody knows what they're talking about. Windows phone as a platform was killed in favor of a unified Windows 10 platform, OneCore is about to be ready and therefore all the division that was exclusively working on the mobile platform no longer have work to do thus being let go. Windows 10 is rapidly growing in all horizons being the mobile division the only one stalling, but trust me, they're getting a surface phone ready and if they get it right it'll be, not just huge, it'll be the future.

Often they left out the Graphics acceleration but Symbian was good multimedia and production O/S.
