luis, 16 Feb 2016I think that calling this stupid is not right. The people that is supporting this is doing it ... moreThe people behind the crowd-funding barely count, in my opinion. Beggining with the fact that they needed to enter sony's crowd funding page i think we can safely assume they like the sony brand, and thar plays a major role in their backing this. Products need to be appealing for the general public, and at $250 i doubt many people will go for a remote they can't use in the dark, and with which they'd need to wait several seconds to press the next button (that is unless there's no refreshing the screen after each touch, which would make a lot of sense but i'm not sure is possible with e-ink displays). I'll believe thisbis a stupid idea until they prove me wrong by selling it well.
before I entered the blog , I thought its going to fail cuz of its limited usage,
Now after seeing its price tag, IAM SURE IT WILL FAIL.. seriously SONY what were u thinking when u made it with this price tag + if it falls from your hand or pass it to someone the screen gonna broke -__-
What the heck are "crowd funding" and "corporate product" doing in the same sentence...?!?
Only $250 for a remote u can't use in the dark.
Oh dear Sony. What ARE u playing at?!
I get the impression this is another one of those bad ideas someone just runs with - until reality sets in!
That Huis is ridiculously expensive though they have told the world who is the boss yet with another thing which is the always-on-display as its still to be featured on Samsung and LG but Sony is already mass producing it now, just like they did with the 4K display. I do hope they start to sell better.
the whole point is customisation, yes, learning remotes have been with us since the 80's ( if you don't know what there are, you are not familar with home cinema which is commonly used for) and universal (code) remotes won't do as they don't have the necessary buttons or commands which is need for home cinema
this is an example, but uses lcd screen, expensive though at US$600/GBP400 etc
the difference with this , with e-ink, you customise the menu to heart content
ie, change the menu to a keyboard for smart tv/netflix/google search
change the surround parameters on your home cinema amplifier
use the TV/bluray media functions
search music streams for internet based music
edit mp3 titles, etc
customise menu for internet on tv ( keyboard swap to internet links short cuts(... etc)
DonAlduck, 15 Feb 2016Looks really cool in my opinion and really useful if you can actually download different codes... moreit's a learning remote, you use the IR to copy original remotes signal and use it on the new remote, this is old but high end technology since the late 1980's
the problem about multi code remotes is that there are main functions /signals not on these remotes, ie, they have the simple commands, volume, change source, but there won't have lesser known ( but very useful) commands such changing pcm audio to bitstream, dolby digital to dts, alter the levels on the surround, lower the subwoofer level etc.

The people that is supporting this is doing it because they like it and want to have a device like that. I think that I dont need this, I'm done with the IR of my S5. But I do respect the fact that these people like this kind of device and is supporting it.
alall, 15 Feb 2016that's called innovation. i love every gadget from sony. keep it up please sony. Sooner or later Crapple will steal the idea, call it innovation and Sue Sony.
Why not make something like Yotaphone instead? Sony, you already have the tech. Just do it!.
Yeah, kudos for thinking out of the box, but this is pretty stupid. Someone already pointed out the lack of backlighting, and there's also the painfully low refresh rate of e-ink displays... Forget about zapping with this one. It would make a good remote for ACs though i guess, so maybe one or two people would get it and not regret it

What does it mean 100 uses per day? Sony, please also include some backlight for it.
Soooo, what about backlighting??What are you supposed to do when it's DARK in the room like when,oh I don't know,WATCHING A MOVIE???How are you supposed to see the controls??If it is a flat touch surface, there is no way of feeling the controls.I want one of these so bad but there is that. Before I became a cell phone addict,I was and still am a universal remote freak,I love them.I still have my Sony RMV-A400 that is a hybrid remote with a Blue backlit touchscreen,it's resistive tech. but neverthe less backlit.

Why not slap an IR and develop a universal remote app on your Xperias instead? This to me is redundant!
Looks really cool in my opinion and really useful if you can actually download different codes to make it work with different products, however it does seem to be very pricey.
Lol. No one seems to know that huis is the Dutch word for house and it is indeed pronounced very close to "house".
This remote is DoA. Having said that, I am believer in e-ink screens as second screens.
