Samsung has been the leader from the past couple of years in terms of Smartphone units sold, but its Market Share is constantly dropping. Other prominent players in the Smartphone Market include Apple (consistent share), Huawei (trending upwards), Lenovo and Xiaomi.
tapah, 20 Feb 2016do you happy now fanndroid??android nearly monopoly market?.im only sad because it took me a few reads to understand u.
AnonD-405728, 19 Feb 2016oh really? please tell us where we can buy them officially in the US. and stop trolling.Well the US is a market for itself and you can´t really take it as normal. Maybe you don´t have Xiaomi but you have such good deals on big brands that Xiaomi wouldn´t stand a chance. Its prices would be the same as Apple or Samsung but the quality is incomparable. But I am sure you can get any Xiaomi on ebay if you don´t mind longer wait for the shipping.
@pple: Samsung your training is complete you have surpass your master...
now 1 thing remains.. you need to defeat me so that you will be the one to continue my legacy...
S@msung: Yes master i must defeat you...
The mid range market depends a lot of sale volume as not much revenue/profit is made form each individual unit. So expect a tsunami of new cheap but good mid range models from the up and coming manufacturers.
As prices drop more people will purchase a smartphone and Android market share will grow...not everybody can afford a 700 dollar iPhone... Heck..in some countries that's like a year of income.
[deleted post]Ha ha.. Why so much hate when I put some valid arguments? Fragmentation is not as big an issue as it is being made out to be. Anyway, let us argue after 1 year in this forum if you have guts.
Android mid-rangers are coming to fight against so called "premium" phones from one manufacturer. Once android mid-rangers start winning the battle, it would be fun to watch apple joining them in competition with inferior products or become a real niche product - not the one which is owned by every tom, dick and harry and still act as if a niche product.
With lower cost as ever like the 4$ smartphone, android will attain newer heights for market share. Good job for samsung in the mid range, where all their gains in 2015 came from, more than covering the slight lost in the premium market.
AnonD-370043, 19 Feb 2016samsung will remove from smartphone market in 5 years ..sure and iOS will become open source.

Apple is the ONLY manufacturer of iphones. So they are standing out from others without any competition in IOS world. Android OEMs can't stand out that easily because of tough competition.

It seems like everyone and their mother had an iphone in the past. Little 5 year old kids had iphones. Nobody is standing out with an iphone. "Hey. Have you seen one of these phones around? It is called an iphone 6.". If you wanna stand out with high quality and save hundreds of bucks, go with a moto x pure edition.

It's very easy to see why this happens, you can't stand out with android device and someone else can offer same thing lot cheaper, iPhone is different story because no-one can copy it or sell same packet cheaper
Typhoon, 19 Feb 2016Why dont Samsung phones hold their value like iPhones?Because Android world is not a "mono-poly". We (android users) have "choice". When there is competition, customers get more (value) for less (money). Only in mono-poly (read apple), customer will get less (value) for more (money). It is up-to the customers to be happy about getting less for more OR demand more for less. Choice is yours.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 20162015 was best year for Apple
"6s sales are lower than i6"
iPhone ASP ($690) was higher ... moreLet us get some facts straight here:
1. 2015 was indeed the best year for Apple, so I will give it to you. The other guy was wrong.
2. In 2015, iphone 6 & 6+ sold for 3 quarters. 6s and 6s+ were available only for 4 months. So the higher ASP was mainly contributed by 6 & 6+, not necessarily 6s and 6s+
3. In holiday quarter, apple indeed shipped 70+ million iphones. Again, Apple did/will NOT provide the breakup of how much each of the models (5, 5s, 6, 6+, 6s, 6s+) contributed to the sales.
4. The 64GB, 128GB versions of 6 & 6+ still cost very high even after $100 discount post 6s & 6s+ launch. So it is still possible that 6s & 6s+ are not well received by ifans and great 2015 for apple was due to the previous generation iphones only.
5. The Jan-Mar 2015 quarter was one of the greatest quarters for Apple due to 6 & 6+. It is not the same case in 2016, after 6s and 6s+ launch. So the comments of Apple going down are valid.
Fact is the downward trend is a small one only compared to others in the past (not a free-fall like nokia or BB had), but that could change fast in later half of 2016 and 2017. Because the battle will be "Premium" phones (iphones) Vs Android mid-rangers which have become damn-good now.
I could very well see Android mid-rangers winning the battle against so called "Premium" phones (Android flagships have already lost that battle, only iphones are left) and "Premium" segment only shrinking in future.
