It's a nice looking phone, there's no argument here...
2 main issues though...
The medium version looks way too similar to the premium version - not enough visual difference - not what you want if you're paying more for the flagship..
Also, 2.0 aperture on the camera means pretty poor low-light photography, which is so surprising coming from Sony...
It just doesn't offer anything different or unique to other flagships - and because it looks like a mid-range phone - why would people choose this over the more powerful, better featured and at least 'unique' looking handsets from other manufacturers???
Such a shame, as I'd have been tempted with a Sony phone if it had upped its game more (for PS remote play, etc.)
AnonD-169116, 22 Feb 2016There is an important part to this that does not appear in the text: both M and Z series disappear.Good riddance to the M and Z series of Xperia phones. It's about time Sony refreshed and streamlined its product lineup for Xperia.
So this is Sony's new approach. X series for spring, Z series for Autumn. I have to say I like this approach a lot more.
Good initiation Sony.
Coming up with a new line up with metal and new series to compete with Samsung and LG (Not directly since its not flagship, but a step ahead Z5 with latest chip-set) is a good initiative.
However need more innovations, such as improvements in flash (Xenon and/or 2-3 LEDs), Minimize top and bottom bezels (Popular complaint for years and yet to be answered) and last but not least, regardless of higher pixel, bigger sensor, faster auto focus, we need a camera with low/no noise in low light photography. Its another unanswered complaint so far. (Z5 has the same issue, hope its the camera of Z5).

Rather than spending more money on new "series" they should spend of marketing the Z5 series with new ads and stuff, or by releasing a Z5 Ultra.
And the way Sony name things are very inconsistent... Z Ultra, Z3 tablet compact, Z5 Premium, XA, X Perfomance.. They should just stick with Premium rather than Performance .__.

So when a phone has a one simple colour it "has been painted with a "tone-on-tone approach," so the front and back are a single, continuous color."....
It's one colour. Doesn't need all that sophisticated gibberish.
Performance should have been called Z6. Yet still. 5'' and 145 mm tall nearly same as Z5. They should have been put it into more compact body with maximum height of 134-135 mm, so it would be universal size for most people on the planet. Another problem. It's not Z series. So I wouldn't expect any serious software updates.
AnonD-247648, 22 Feb 2016sony need new designer ..one design use for 4 year. bored with xperia line look, no matter how... moreBuy XA if you want new Design.
It is different from X and Xp.
You can clearly see it.
It looks like a mini Xperia c5ultra.
cpu wise sd650/652 win but cant say about gpu because mali t860 mp2 is quite powerful in mid range. So i guess it may be better than adreno 405
Anonymous, 22 Feb 2016Why Sony, why? Why the X Performance is 5", not 5.2" or 5.3"? I was waiting so long for a flag... moreNew flagship will have new camera sensor with dualcam support and 3axis stabilsation, bigger screen res and size, bigger ram, etc
This is midrange
Hopefully when this fone is release it will lowered the curernt sony m5 price.. Cuz its a bit expensive..
Volca, 22 Feb 2016soo.... since XP is stronger with the SD820.. which one is the flagship now? Z"P" and X"P"?ZP for sure
