[deleted post]i would disagree with you on other comments but, i total agree with you on this one.

open source is all about doing things for yourself.

only one big problem their is no such thing as open source when you are limited as to what you can & cannot install, just like what your favorite technology APPLE dose to all of it's customers, relase a new software OS upgrade with a new product that's some what up to par with the competition.

Um, Gsmarena, you could do video calls with Fling, Gtalk and a bunch of other programs basically since the N900 came out. Research more gsmarena. Seriously.

N900 is a great phone, we don't need Meego as soon as maemo will get up dates, as it is the case, which other phone, has HD screen, reads Flash, 5 millions pixels, TV out... not the i phone!
biggest missing element on the N900 is Ovi map 3.03! anybody knows when it will be available?

Someone will be able to boot up meego on our device when it's finished remember meego is not complete yet and neither is the n900 lol
If the n900 can boot up 4 OSs
          Osx
          Android
          Linux Debian
          Windows

Moblin 2.2 or meego 1.0 should be able to
          Boot
          But if not
          Custom updates FTW

But obvious ..Meego has teamed up with intel and is going to work with intel based processor only. and N900 has ARM Cortex which is a rival for Intel. So Be happy with meamo!

on one site i'm very happy about pr 1.2 release but on the other it's embaressing for company like nokia not to get any updates for 4 months for their best phone (who is not less than 500€). and about not releasing meego for n900- now i realy think to sell my n900 and buy htc evo 4g

I see N900 as just an experimental device. Its empowering MeeGo developments right now and successor will have a combined power of Intel, Nokia and brand new mobile computing OS, MeeGo. I believe MeeGo is going to be an OS with great potential.

What MeeGo? there aren't yet any devices running on it. When it will be available it will install on most devices that don't have ridiculous locks the same way you install windows or linux on a pc ;)

well that is confusing cos on Maemo Arena they say Meego will be coming to the N900????? confusing ot what! Well as it stands i don't have this update yet on my N900. But when i think about it.....I'm very happy with my N900 it has a very stable operating system and is fast with a fab web browser. There are just 2 things I would ad to the N900, 1. editing of documents and 2. a better battery. Otherwise i'm really pleased with my phone. Even when i read that Meego won't come to the N900 it didn't really bother me. After all what is Meego. What extra things will it give over Meamo? Will it be better than Maemo.... who knows. One thing i do know is that my N900 is the best mobile i've had so far. So even if it doesn't get Meego I really don't care!

Nokia has also announced that PR 1.2 is not the last firmware for N900. They will keep rolling out the updates. Also, gsmarena.com please note--

Meego for N900 will never be launched commercially and will not be launched as a firmware update via nsu, ota or by Nokia Care Service Centers.

But, other than that, a fully working, fully compatible, fully supported, fully updated Meego will be released for N900 soon with an option to dual boot with Maemo. It's just that the users are supposed to do it themselves via future tutorials from various Maemo and Meego forums. The firmwares will be specifically written for the N900 and this job is not left upon various online communities and forums to port it for N900.

                            Go to this link--
                            http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=675725#post675725

will also post few other links to prove everything in some time...

I will really enjoy this new update from Nokia but I'm really disappointed cause N900 will not offically be powered by MeeGo.

For me the reason is Arm chips will not be used anymore.

I'm really excited to see what will be the successor of the N900 : Maybe the Atom chipset designed for smartphone inside it ? A real evolution, it's what I like with Nokia !!!!!

1.2 isn't available yet in the us. Tried updating on the phone and online, Nokia isn't making it available yet. You can get an unofficial version, but I don't want to brick my phone. Supposedly it'll be available by the end of tomorrow, UGH!
