It starts out as a simple different idea perspective, then it gets fu.cked up.
I wish there would be a full glass made Z6 line. Cause full glass body also looks stylish. But if its not the case, its not a biggie. X Performance also looks great with its stainless steel body and equipped with top level hardware. 5" full HD screen delivers what users really asks, no need to go with a bigger screen size or resolution, at least for this year. Stereo speakers, 23MP camera, flawless back&front color design make Sony opt out from others.
The next step Sony should do is to fit 5.5" screen to the same chassis by using top and bottom space.
If I was in a position to replace my phone, that would be Xperia Performance for sure.

But the simple fact is, the device is not out yet, and as such has not been tested as far as real world performance of the camera is concerned, so your comments as to it's superiority may be premature.
I do agree though that other manufactures have been able to get better performance out of Sony camera hardware than Sony themselves have managed.

Anonymous, 24 Feb 2016Nice lie. Xperia Z3 still has one of the best battery life in a smartphone. At the time of re... moreWhile Sony and HTC fans fight .. the Samsung fans can relax, Samsung S series have always obliterated any competition especially in camera phone department. Interestingly enough Samsung uses (with few exceptions) modified Sony sensors, kind of unfortunate for Sony - they supply the best available sensors fro Samsung, while themselves they have pretty mediocre quality pictures... S7 is just proof of that - no other phone come close for its performance. maybe only 41MP monstrosity from Nokia, but only in perfect light condition and perfect scenes. In real life S7 will take 99 best shots from 100 compared to any other phone and maybe even large number of lower end cameras.
One small note. Why the Sony's have 3GB of RAM coupled with SN820.
While in same time Samsung's and LG's and other competitors go with 4GB of RAM.
Just, why. Well I assume and hope it will be as smooth as those with 4GB or RAM, because of Sony's smooth UI, and not because of cutting production costs, also smaller batteries..
Production cost wise X series should be cheaper than glass Z series.
Even assuming performance on Sony's is same with 3GB as on those with 4GB, why not take advantage of that and also have 4GB, that would put them in lead.
Anyways, hope that only excuse for this would be either Z ULTRA with 4GB of RAM coming, maybe, hopefully so. Or Z series in autumn with 4 gigs.
Maybe, just maybe... Z Ultra could be live this autumn, cuz it could take advantage lf possibility to have 6GB of ram and differenchiate itself with having great camera tech alike on 1020 and bigger form factor as expected for Z Ultra, perhaps 4k too.
Because Z Ultra was about cutting edge back then, coming first with SN800... and jumping with big display for the time, when phablets was just becoming a thing and was risky to do so, everyone thought it was so big, even 5inch screens were considered big back then.
But look at us now, the 5.1 to 5.5 is avarage now, well 6.4 would be big now too, but really it is as perfect as compact series, except it has biggest screen while still being holdable.
Also back then, didn't it also present Bravia screen on mobile for first too?
Also having 2GB ram for the time, slick thinnes, only letdown then was the camera.
So Definition of Ultra isn't just screen size, it is top notch new performance, screen tech, and this time around it could be 6GB of RAM and some awesome camera.
Or seeing the thin X series camera could still be within surface, but hopefully at leadt not disappointing and actually great performing.
Would be finally able to throw $$$ at screen once it's unveiled.
Well, one can dream, of successor of Z Ultra to finally come true.
But maybe, someday maybe, the one will come reality.
No Z series anymore? :3 :s ...
Thought they will have X series for first half of year and new Z line up coming in September..
Also metal is nice changes and all, but it doesn't look that special, it's unaweseome.
There was nothing wrong with glass build and metal side or plastic even for Z series, all Z5's looked great and Z3/Z3+ Z3c looked cool too and just look at the Z5 Premium's design.
I can agree, I am also way tired of Sony's design, don't get me wrong, OMNI balance is great and all, but design is too similar every year, slightly perfecting formula. Even Iphone with it's similar design manages to make changes noticable enough, sick of that rectangle, miss older times of Sony Xperia / early Sony designs. But fine, I would be ok with the designs and actually like the new X series, apart from regular looking metal pane.
But what I am most tired off is the UI, fastness and smoothness is good and all, but there is absolutely no excitement left, same design, same UI, slightly upgraded/polished each year, just specs change. Kinda makes sick of this steril enviroment, and there is no multiwindow funkcionality, wonder why it's just Korean thing only, would perfectly imagine Sony having one too. Well, guess thankfully there is Mods and Xposed for that.
Finally the cameras having same/ better sensors and still performing worse due image processing is a running joke, yeah ik there are manual controls, but really, really -_-.. this is repeating issue, as repetitive as the UI and designg, crafted till there is no soul left, your regular brick, then again, which happens to be buttery smooth, fast, waterproof and reliable.
Midrangers coming out every year are more exciting than actual flagship series, apart from waiting before unveiling of new flagship to see what's new and losing hopes every time, ahh, that's all, just little upgrades here and there.
Speaking of Midrangers: M4 Aqua, not mentioning the poor camera performance, that's worser for even such midranger category, the 8GB of memory, which is so bloated that there are barely 1 and something GB left for apps and media... Sigh.
Ending on a positive note.
The XA is looking awesome, having the near same design as X and X Performance, the edge to edge display makes all the difference, mediatek is a fine cpu, apart from the lack of possibility to have custom Mods installed.
Well, Sony has become so Monotone, lost all it's colours of creativity, same formula:
same UI, same design, applyed for few size options, ever so slightly polished every year or in compact's case lesser so often. P.s. Z compact series seems to be only likable one and justified, only fresh breeze and having appeal to em'.

Xperia Z3 still has one of the best battery life in a smartphone. At the time of release it was the best.
From your comment it's clear that your a miserable HTC troll. Dream on. HTC still can't match Xperia Z1's camera.

I'm on the Sony UK site now... moreIt says pre-register rather than pre-order, just went to phones... admittedly it was bottom on the list as opposed to top where the current Z5's are but whatever
Still waiting for Z ULTRA. The 5.5 is little too small, around 6.4 as original is perfect max screen estate size and still comfortly holdable. On edge of being a phablet.
Also await multi screen funkcionality and great camera, great design too.
Really hoped it would come this year with SN820.

In any case my point was that Sony DE info might be unreliable since something else is clearly up/strange/different with them since they're (supposedly) not getting the X-Performance in contrast to everyone else.
sad... i was really hoping to get an ultra model of their flagship... only z ultra ever attracted me... this means i ain't buying a phone this year
