Both will rely on Valve to distribute their games.

Also, Vive is to have support for Oculus SDK.

People seemed to be fixated on his slight mistake (and it is misleading tbh) and ignoring the main point, which is why I tried to reinforce it.

People here seem quick to compare Gear VR and Vive.
However, its like comparing apples and oranges. The Vive is not expensive for nothing, it provides a way better experience than all its competitors and thus it is targeted towards enthusiasts - people who will want absolutely the best experience and have the money to throw. The whole system that runs Vive will be at least about $2000, because you need to have a powerful PC to run Vive, whereas the Gear VR is happy with a smartphone.
tl;dr: Its not pointlessly expensive.
misa, 29 Feb 2016Gear Vr(2560x1440) has better resolution than HTC Vive (2160x1200)resolution isn't everything. Gear VR has lower refresh rate, smaller field of view, doesn't allow movement, and a lot of other things where it cannot overcome Vive. In terms of experience Vive will be way better than Gear VR. You have to understand that Vive is targeted at a niche market who have money and won't compromise on quality of experience. Even the PC to run Vive requires a $330 GPU and a $250 processor. Gear VR and Vive aims differently, so you cannot compare them directly.
and they will all bow to hololense.
nothing comes close to the inovation and creativity that will offer. thats a true device which will inspire many projects, not just gaming.
it might be bulky and expensive, but a versions down the line when they shrink it, and processors and components shrink and many businesses will be using it over any other VR out there.

This HTC Vive is co-developed with Steam which knows the gaming industry well enough.
I trust Vive more than Gear VR and gonna buy it.

Samsung had patented Head Mounted Device since 2005. They tried to make a VR device with the Galaxy S4 but they never released it because it is not up to standard back then with S4 only spotting a FullHD display. Then we see the Innovator Edition which used the Note 4 only. Since 2014 developers have been creating contents for Gear VR. This also mean Oculus Store is the most advanced VR store online with 185 apps available as of February 2016. HTC Vive is more of a gaming-centric VR headset. It have 107 games coming to the device as of today. Samsung collaboration with Oculus is more meaningful compare to HTC collaboration with Valve. At least we know Oculus will never die with two giant company backing it up. Yes, Facebook and Samsung. And who is supporting HTC or Valve for that matter?
with that price i can buy galaxy s7/edge,LG G5,two piece mi5,htc m10,huawei nexus 6p,LG V10,two LG G4 and xperia Z5
