Here's what Gizmag says about the Gear VR:
"Some apps, games and experiences are more magical than others. Like any platform, some games don't elicit much interest from us and we stop playing after five minutes or so. But then there are titles like Land's End , Eve Gunjack, Herobound , The Night Cafe, Dreadhalls and Viral that give us wonderful glimpses into what VR can be. The novelty of VR can only mask mediocre game design for so long; but take a great game – one made with thought, care and attention to detail, that would hold up on other platforms – and place it in this new medium, and your jaw may literally drop. Mine certainly has for much of the time I've been using the Gear VR, and I've been using VR headsets for a couple of years already."
And here's their conclusion:
"The Gear VR provides an often-magical virtual reality experience; we recommend any owner of a 2015 Samsung flagship who's even mildly curious about VR to pay $99 for it. The Oculus Rift will crank the graphical prowess and sense of presence up a few notches, but the Gear VR is following closer behind than you may expect. Google Cardboard makes for a cool enough tech demo and there's lots of other fun stuff coming in 2016, but right now the Gear VR is the only real virtual reality platform. It's mobile VR, but infinitely more mesmerizing than mobile games you'd play on your phone without a headset."
Brian sohai, 29 Feb 2016This gadget is for the rich and not for the mass market. It has received many good reviews... moreYou've tested the Gear VR and say that it lags terribly? Then how come I've never found even one trust worthy online reviewer who says that it lags even once, not even from the very first Gear VR Innovator Edition? You're lying so bad. You've never even gotten close to a Gear VR!
Does anyone in the comments section here have any idea about the hardware or why it is expensive? It is a niche product for enthusiasts who want to try out VR. Ofc it's going to cost as much. Plus it is not only the VR device but also the joystick pair and a headset at that price! also thi s device is a million times better than the gear VR because it does not give you nausea after use!
Brian sohai, 29 Feb 2016Go check your specs accurately la before simply replying here like a fool. Actually he is right and you are the fool. Resolution per eye of the Gear VR is 1280x1440, HTC Vive is 1080x1200, which means 42% more pixels for Gear VR.

Gear VR don't even have a main display like HTC Vive. It is smartphone dependence. All of S6 series and Note5 have 2K display with over 500+ppi. Btw, you mocking plastic? So, what? You think HTC Vive use metal? Plastic is light material suitable as a head mounted device. You are not even working the logic well.

It has received many good reviews... moresure is for rich people...but i know this will cut the PS4 and XBOX sales too, because people will buy this instead of a PS4 or XBOX!
But this costs twice the PS4...and will be out of the market first than PS4...so, whats the point?

It has received many good reviews and awards from many parties.
There are still a lot of people that can simply splurge this kind of money for this product and I am one of them.
I tested the Gear VR and it lags terribly from top to bottom. No wonder it cost a cheapo 100 bucks.

I tested the Gear VR, to be frank, it sucks balls. The graphic is true lousy and display resolution is only 480p. WTF! 480p display in year 2016??? What is Samsung even thinking about? And Gear VR uses plastics materials same as other Samsung phones.
At least HTC Vive is using 2K display.
Gear VR is like only Toyota
HTC Vive is like Ferrari at top speed.
For me, I will buy the HTC Vive since it is more future-proof.
WHAT?! 899€? is this a smartphone or what? HTC want to earn money they dont do with phones with this VR that's what i think!
Loosers, if you sell 1000 are a much...and i dont belive people will pay for this, overpriced as hell, and thnking of this way if aiple launch a similar thing will costs over 3000€ and all aiple fans will buy it without close theyr eyes and will say: aiple do it better!!! ahahahah
Haters gonna hate, true lovers will get with me in this thinking!

Such a shame that it costs so much when Gear Vr along with S7 would cost much less here (which together cost more in USA)
Guess I'll wait a year or two before boarding the VR train.
