these older phones should be able to run 2.2 better than 1.5/1.6 or even 2.1 for that matter... its apparently been optimised hugely so really these older phones with weaker processors would be the phones to most take advantage of what froyo has to offer
agreed BIG TIME that HTC Hero has been HTC's neglected child... definitely reconsider buying a HTC after this, despite how good of a phone it is without any updates and running on almost the original factory software (got to give kudos to HTC for that one)
aww well... ill just look at my friend running froyo on his nexus one while i fiddle with 1.5 pretty much 9 months after we were "promised" an update to 2.1...
what a god damn joke...

Why does the desire get the 2.2 update while the magic doesn't when they have the same amount off rom. Is this just an excuse from htc? Can someone explain this to me?
