Shame that the 16GB version os still being released, 32GB should be the lowest standard.

It has nothing to do with "advancement". A mobile device needs to work the screen, make calls, run GPS, Bluetooth, DLNA, etc which a PC wouldn't use unless installed. And there are many things a mobile device does almost similar to a PC. Makes sense that mobile OS now days will eat up more space at barebone state.
Samsung Galaxy S7 will let you Move Apps to SD
JimmyN, 03 Mar 2016My Mac OSX requires about 8GB free space.
The old WinXP requires about 5GB. Ubuntu 15 desktop... moreYou're comparing apples to oranges.
Desktop OS is using firmware based on Intel's Architecture for DESKTOPS while Mobile OS uses firmware specific for ARM Architecture.
You can NEVER compare the two in this situation because they are using different architecture (Hence, APPLES vs ORANGES)
asus zenfone 2 laser ZE550KL 5.5 phone 3GB ram version 16GB rom phone takes 5.20GB for default OS, and asus released three firmware updates it tooks another some GB space and then asus and google preloaded some applications which cant be installed every week or every month , these two company releases updates to appliactions which further takes some GB so total user available memory is 8.10GB out of 16GB

My Mac OSX requires about 8GB free space.
The old WinXP requires about 5GB. Ubuntu 15 desktop also about 5GB.
So I guess 8GB space is standard for modern operating system.

Why don't you tell me and the GSM Arena community how you came to the conclusion that I do not own an iPhone. And please, say something that make sense unlike your last comment. Are you saying that when I take my 64GB iPhone 6, click on Settings, then click on General, then click on About, then look at the 55.7 GB on the right hand side of capacity which is the amount of usable storage I have, that all of that took place because I do not have an iPhone? Or is it your view that someone with an iPhone cannot speak the truth? I and others will be waiting for a sensible response now.

AnonD-442781, 03 Mar 2016Lg takes more space apparently. So that means more bloat. So if it is true that LG uses more for Android plus there skin on Android, why aren't people asking why Samsung as always is the target? Why are bloggers/journalist always going after Samsung for things for which there are sometimes worst offenders? What is in it for them?
AnonD-442781, 03 Mar 201664gb is actually less than that. Its closer to 60gb. IOS takes around 4-5gb Stock android ... moreFirst of all, Apple does not sell a 60GB phone. If you are willing to make 4gb of the 64gb disappear into thin air, let's do the same for Samsung. Secondly, no one other than you is claiming touch wiz is using 8gb. Read the article carefully. It says Android and Touch Wiz are using up 8GB on the galaxy s7. The fact remains that after ios is install on my iPhone 6, I have only 55.7gb of 64gb remaining. Somehow, there is not a bad word written about that however. That is 8.3gb not available to me after the OS is install.
AnonD-510168, 03 Mar 2016My current iPhone 6 (64) has a capacity of 55.7GB left after ios 9.2.1. Assuming I didn't eat... moreSir, you are in error. No one from gsmarena doesn't have anything against Samsung, Apple, Vivo, Huawei, LG, etc. absolutely nobody. In this article, it's about how operating systems will evolve in the coming years. It's just a coincidence that he was brought up, it was all about the phone from Samsung.
The same thing happens in all phones. No matter the company producing telephones. No matter which company produces the operating system.

IOS takes around 4-5gb
Stock android takes somewhere between 5-6gb (I think, potentially more)
And touch wiz apparently takes 8gb, other UIs take around the same I think.
Numbers aren't that different, especially when you consider the base iPhone is only 16gb with no expandable storage, but iOS is slightly leaner.
