LOL Wtf? Are people really so much stupid? I mean really? I can't believe people would buy this product!
AnonD-352484, 22 Mar 2016So I am originally German and I live in California right now, I think I can compare that quite... moreWas that half a century ago?
When it comed to price, well it's not cheap, but neither has Sony's compacts been. Smaller screens and smaller batteries does not effect the pricetag that much.
It's more than I would pay for a small phone to complement my other phones. Perhaps the hardware is a bit over the top, rather, considering the small screen.
It should come with 32GB minimum, 16GB is getting tight today, expecially when there is no memory expansion.
Then, the screen is a bit small for the size of the device. Or perhaps the device is a bit big for it's screen. People looking for something extremely compact, that are not turned down by the display size, will soon discover that it's not as small as they might think, when reading the screen size figure.
But the biggest let down, is the design.
It looks like an old iPhone. It's seriously a dated design. Sorry to say, but iPhone design is in no way timeless.
And that is bad from a marketing term. No one that sees anyone using this device, will ever think it's a completely new product. So the free marketing they get from people getting intrigued is lost.
People will simply think, that this is an old iphone, with old hardware. Or rather not think about it at all, as they have seen it so many times before.
The SE should have been a new product to expand their portfolio. Now it just looks like a "low-cost" alternative.
AnonD-296725, 22 Mar 2016apple know how to milk for sureDont forget the 128gb S6 last year for €899...

what can you do in California with 100$?
me in norway, almost nothing....maybe a dec... moreSo I am originally German and I live in California right now, I think I can compare that quite well. In Germany you can but 1 liter beer in the grocery store for 69ct and 0.5 liter in the restaurant are around 2.50 dollar. Here in California I barely get a liter of beer for less than 2.50 dollar in the grocery store and I have to pay around 7 or 8 in the restaurant. No kidding, that's what it costs over here.
A small apartment with a bedroom, a kitchen, living room for two people in my home town in Germany was around 700 per month, here in the bay area the exact same apartment - worse build quality, thinner walls, thinner doors - is around 2500 per month. And yes it is, I live in such a apartment - San Francisco would be even more expensive.
Getting a frozen pizza in the grocery store in Germany is 1.50 dollars, here it's 3 dollars. Restaurant it's 7-8 dollars in Germany and 15-20 dollar in this area.
The only thing that is cheaper here is the gasoline, but since Germans have smaller diesel cars compared to gasoline SUVs and trucks it's not a huge difference in the end of the day.
The list of examples could be so much longer but in the end of the day, you just pay a lot more here. Not speaking of education and going to the doctor what is basically for free in Germany and what you have to pay for in the US. Getting a speeding ticket - 30 dollar Germany to 300 dollar USA -if you are lucky, sometimes it's 500 and more.
So enough off topic, people in Europe or at least in Germany shall just not complain about higher pricing of phones, we save a lot more every month with cheaper basic living expenses. A lot! And if we stay in the phone business, a normal CHEAP phone contract from Verizon costs 80 dollar per month, the same from Vodafone Germany would cost around 40 in Germany. Yeah, that's 960 difference in two years, I think with that's it's really not a problem to pay a little more for the phone itself.
what a rip the 16gb SE is, the better Xperia Z3 Compact is on 299 uk pounds now thats a bargain and a really good phone!
Aadrian , 21 Mar 2016And of course prices in euro zone countries are high as ever. Stupid euro anyways, hate it sin... moreI'll take old design with non-slippery phone any time over new design with phone jumping out of my hands each time I try to do anything one-handed on it.
And of course prices in euro zone countries are high as ever. Stupid euro anyways, hate it since it came in use. In dollars $550 sounds overpriced but $399 sounds reasonable considering the hardware, only 16GB is not of this time anymore. Design wise it's so old. I like the iPhone 6 design better but a new design couldn't hurt.
A lot of the high prices have to do with taxes of EU being high. It's not all the manufacturers fault
AnonD-352484, 21 Mar 2016Don't wone around, almost everything else is a lot cheaper in Europe than it is in the US, com... moreSays the guy who doesn't live in Europe. And you can't just say things are cheap, because they might be cheap for someone who has a high salary, but pretty expensive for someone who doesn't, even though salaries in some of the EU (+Switzerland) countries are higher than in US (based on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median_household_income).
Apple products are way overpriced in Europe. Seriously why do manufacturers enjoy making European customers pay way more. Even HTC a9 for example. 32gb 3gb ram for 399 dollars in US. We get the 16gb 2gb for 550€. How do the manufacturers justify this? HELLO you lose many many many customers because of the pricing.

3.78l. bread is starting from 4$ for a peace.

dude, if you ware one summer in Greace, Turky or Spain....you don't know nothing about european prices.
if you want to talk about LA and San Francisco, New york and Miami prices....we must comapare London, Paris, Oslo, Stolkhom, Amsterdam...
cheaper places you can find on both continents.
anyway...on subject.i just wan't to say, that Xiaomi Mi5, which in China costs same 500$ inu USA will cost about 600 and here in EU more than 700.

Anonymous, 21 Mar 2016I don't see this done on other phones so it's not just only in eu. Manufacturer needs to pay ... moreDon't wone around, almost everything else is a lot cheaper in Europe than it is in the US, come to California and life here for a wile and you will see... Life in Europe is cheap as f*ck, that little more money for a phone is really not a problem at all
I just cant seem to understand the price gap between U.S. and EU. So dissappointing. And its not just apple. Google did the same with this year's nexus'
AnonD-501554, 21 Mar 2016Too much for an old looking phone with a new chip and upgraded camera. Not a good idea Apple. Only old looking. Thats all. We just got 4" iPhone 6s.
