More importantly, what companies are succeeding in marketing GPUs to be a deal maker? This is not a PC market where these are interchangeable. Like I said in earlier comment, there's no extra money to be made by this. You still have no point. You really think telling people "Ohhhh our GPU does xxx gigaflops, are you impressed???" will actually impress people? Most of them companies just show what their GPU is capable of so that consumers aren't worried about running the newest games. If you check the list of top games, they barely require 3 year old GPUs anyway.
If you honestly think that gamers who actually care about GPUs on their smartphones make up the majority of consumers... then... that would be the dumbest thing ever said so far.
AnonD-5197, 23 Mar 2016You don't even have a counter argument to the "dumbest comment ever". What does that make you?In a time where people are so into games and VR, u saying a GPU is not something that can be marketed, when companies clearly are doing that, says it all.....
Even it is embedded as part of an APU, still that carries a lot of weight in people deciding what to buy.....

No one goes "Oh, PowerVR XXX is on this phone, I must have it". Majority of the consumers are not gamers. It doesn't make "life easier" for people. Apple doesn't really benefit from having the GPU done in-house for that reason. GPU isn't something that will add enough marketable value to their phones to buy the maker for.
Besides, I think GPU developers are money suckers most of the time. Nvidia and AMD for example.

Go check them out :)
Apple will only try to sell something they can market well. GPU, which is just a part on a chip is not something you can market well to the end users, even Apple. It's just not a thing that will make or break a deal for the vast majority.

A Tseng labs 2d chipset with a power VR 3D solution.
Such was the state of midto late nineties PC video cards
It replaced a voodoo and was replaced by a riva tnt2 (precursor to the GeForce branding that has stuck around).
I loved the concept of power vr back in the day- only draw the triangles you see (early z cull to figure out which parts of the scene to 'render')
I am glad Apple implemented 'Metal' as a great way to make use of these chips advanced features...
And the twelve core gpu in the iPad Pro is very cool kit thatApple and Imagine made happen
Keep up the good work!
Efficient architectures is where it is at.
Raw performance can win, but with an ever growing population we need to look to efficiency/ effectiveness.
Kudos for jobs well done
