All the manufacturers building custom UI are actually disadvantaging themselves. Whatever they do with Anroid they should do it as applications and should always but always allow upgrade to plain Android version.
It is apparent that Google will release new Android version every 2-3 months and people will not tolerate handsets lagging behind, see Xperia if you need an example.
Also I find Google's policy of Android outrageous. You do not even know what is in the pipeline let alone have a say on it or contributing to it. It should be real open source and open to everybody during development so that App developers and manufacturers can prepare their products for the new version.
I cannot see all the manufacturer's being happy with Googles grip on Android hence you have Bada, MeeGo, SymbianX and maybe another chance for Windows comeback.
do u know for desire when it will be available the update to 2.2?
I got my htc desire yesterday and I'm very happy with it :) but 2.2 would be the best now :) Love you Htc! :)
Cool
I don't know if anyone posted this already but I'm gonna post it anyway. I had Froyo FRF72 and everybody was saying that I couldn't manually update to FRF83, but you can. Head over to this website:
http://androidspin.com/2010/06/23/how-to-get-android-2-2-build-frf83-from-any-stock-build/
And it will show you how to update to FRF83 from FRF72 real easy
I have google nexus one phone with firmware version 2.1,but still I am unable to update version 2.2 OTA or manual.I'm using this phone in Dubai and dose that matters? some one help me to get this done please.
Because google/android phones are not like apple. android community is all about sharing and caring lol. unlike apple where everything is locked up and holding off to release things to raise their stocks.
forgot to mention, im in canada... does that make a diff?
i have a nexus one "EPE54B" build number, will i be getting the update?
i've been refreshing and checking for updates every hour for the past 30 hours...
to KGVIC: to tell you!! are you nuts?? if Xperia X10 is stucked on Android 1.6! It is not the fault of Google for this...The new timescape UI makes them harder to be built because they will change everything again!! Not only that!! But it's because in some countries Xperia X10 is already faced out! why it's because it;s to expensive for a phone with average specs...
