Tann Hauser, 14 Apr 2016Yes it is, much worse. Adreno puts out almost double gflops than mali... That is raw process ... moreNot really. Adreno 530 got 46 fps, Mali t880 got 39. So if you take 40% of adreno and 25% off of Mali, Mali is higher. It is also less power hungry, which means less battery consumption.

read the souced website, 820, Exynos 8990 only reach 40C under the stress, while 810 go easily beyond 50C. they started at same temp. which one is more efficient clearly shown.

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2016Because LG G5 is modular they should create a Cooling Module for itNaaah. That wouldn't work. It's a tough one, because you're operating within very small, confined space. I would personally like to see companies stop pushing forward for faster CPU/GPU or more RAM memory, and rather address more important things, like heat management or battery performance. They tell everyone, that new faster chipsets are more power efficient, compared to the last generation, yet no matter what, you can't get through the day with a medium use (not talking about phones with insanely huge batteries, rather 3000mAh, which becomes a standard). I'd rather see development in other departments, so the tech could catch up with the demands.

In such a tight, slim and sealed space it is a serious issue. Heat dissipation technology has to catch up a bit, because what they do right now isn't working all that well."

Termodynamics and related technologies are here for about 150 years, and i asure you (from engineering point of view)heat dissipation isn't the problem at all!
And as you said yourself, its a small "package" that you hold in your hands. So you know... heat must be radiated "somewhere"!? In the case of overly efficient heat dissipation sistem, your hands will have to deal with all that heat.Ok its not a huge amount of energy... but still on small surface would be an issue. So put it bluntly (in such a case) phones would be unpleasent to be used. Its the SoC's itself that should become more efficient in the first place.... simple physics plays here :D

S7 has a heat sink. Snapdragon 820 will perform great on Samsung S7 also. LG got modular design with removable battery but this didnt left space for heat sink.
Nexus 6P has worst design of all 3.

We r Cleary missing a point here. It's the SOC we must talk about.

Don't talk about cpu or gpu separately. In case of sd820 the Adreno 530 is the culprit. If Adreno 530 generates more heat, the kyro cpu cores will also be throttled.
And we know the gpu is the elephant in the room (sd820 soc).

The kirins and Helios have only 4 gpu blocks of Mali T880 whereas exynos 8890 has 12 of them.
So both are out of the picture.

Now in exynos 8890 4 cores clocking at 2.3ghz complemented well by 12 gpu blocks instead of 2 cores at 2.15ghz which are at the mercy of hot adreno 530.

I feel exynos is the winner here.

But if you,in any way can't opt for it, like I am an audiophile and struck with HTC 10's sd820, you can install a custom kernel n downclock that adreno 530 block...

Again kirin n Helios are out of competition to begin with , if u see gpu that they r packing...

Is this why LG and HTC going with SD 652 in some regions ? To offset the Adreno 530 throttling ?

In any case hope someone in XDA comes up with a custom kernel and a sweet spot frequency for Adreno 530 gpu (for both G5 and HTC 10.) So that under that frequency it won't throttle significantly for 1hr at least. At least for those who don't want to buy s7 exynos version.

Exynos 8890: 2.3GHz (Mongoose) with four cores (2.6GHz with two cores)
Kirin 950: 2.3GHz (Cortex-A72)
Helio X20: 2.3GHz (Cortex-A72)
Snapdragon 820: 2.15 GHz (Kryo)

Now, if you're talking about GPU clock speed, that's another story. All the same, Mali GPUs can withstand longer intensive gaming without throttling, something Adreno 530, can't do.
