AnonD-523433, 19 Apr 2016I believe my 808 pureview has a bigger sensor. And with carl ziess optics, the pureview did a ... moreToo bad the technology use to build the sensor is old as 1st gen exmor r . The 808 is now mid range st most .
Good to see,but to be frank sony makes good sensors
Sony develops outstanding camera sensors only drawback is they dont have OIS
so it realizes smaller pixel count 12m was a wrong move. now pick up the upgrade momentum again and move forward to 18m or more
no other makers have caught up the f1.7 yet. it moves further to f1.4 will solidfy samsung's leading position in cameras arena
eager to have and try this new cam
Sensor size is good. But I think the f stop is getting a bit out of hand. The f1.7 S7 already has some problem with rendering street lights on low light shots, because of the f stop. And the recommended f stop for focusing on your subjects at a close distance is f1.8
AnonD-183110, 19 Apr 2016808 still got twice the size of this sensor. What a pitty at 808 pictures are grainy even in sun light
rafaelinux, 19 Apr 2016Still far away from the still-king 808 Pureview, though :(Agree but this is the step in the right direction
Anonymous, 19 Apr 2016F/1.4 huh? Samsung really pushing far with this technology. Samsung, please make night vision ... moref/1.4 is not just for low light photography you can use higher shutter speeds to freeze motion in daylight
rafaelinux, 19 Apr 2016Still far away from the still-king 808 Pureview, though :(yyyup
Great news, if it turns out to be true. Would love a larger sensor with bigger pixels. They need at least 2um pixel area.
AnonD-261376, 19 Apr 2016Wow that's really close to the lumia 1020's 1/1.5" so a modern lumia 1020 is on it's way ;)Still far away from the still-king 808 Pureview, though :(
AnonD-523433, 19 Apr 2016I believe my 808 pureview has a bigger sensor. And with carl ziess optics, the pureview did a ... moreYeah the pureview 808 was 1/1.3" i think, would love to see somebody make an updated version of that phone, was a complete beast of a camera and didn't just push the envelope it redefined what an envelope is
I believe my 808 pureview has a bigger sensor. And with carl ziess optics, the pureview did a great job (except for the dynamic range in auto perhaps).
Samsung should bring them onboard.
AnonD-234961, 19 Apr 20161/1.7" is a great sensor size. The Panasonic LX3, LX5 were legendary cameras using this sensor... moreThe suggestion that a 12Mp sensor will produce a better image than 18Mp at the same sensor size and with the same characteristics is rather odd tbh. The only way this could possibly happen is if the image processing has to be compromised because the hardware cannot cope with the extra data produced. However this is doubtful in a modern smartphone
F/1.4 huh? Samsung really pushing far with this technology. Samsung, please make night vision camera while you at it. Add OIS on selfie cam. Wait, just copy a whole dslr features and put it there! Done.
My Fujifilm Finepix F30 was the best among compacts for night shots in its time 10 years ago. I still have it and use it. Its sensor is 1/1.7".
Levy, 19 Apr 2016The sensor doesn't have an aperture, the lens does. The camera modules used in mobile have fixed lens and sensor setup.
